PROFESSIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS

 Member of Pacific Forum-Centre for Strategic and International

Studies “Young Leaders” Program

As testament to my outstanding research and academic performance, I

was invited to join this program in 2007. This program invites selected
young and up-and-coming graduate students as well as professionals to
participate in various policy dialogues and forums. Founded in 1975, the
thrust of the Forum’s work is to help stimulate cooperative policies in the
Asia Pacific region through debate and analyses undertaken with the
region’s leaders in the academic, government, and corporate arenas. I
have collaborated with my counterparts from North America, Northeast
Asia as well as Southeast Asia in producing various reports and papers for
an international audience.

4
EXPERIENCE IN TERTIARY SECTOR

ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

 Convenor, Centre for Asian Studies Postgraduate Academic

Review
I am currently the convener for the Centre for Asian Studies Postgraduate
Academic Review [CASPAR]. This is an informal student organisation
established to provide an environment for graduate students to interact
and exchange views in an welcoming and supportive environment.

 Coordinator, Centre for Asian Studies Working Papers Series

I proposed the establishment of a Working Papers Series at the Centre for
Asian Studies in October 2008. The rationale is to raise the research
profile of the Centre by having records of research conducted.
Furthermore, by communicating the research findings to the wider
University community has the potential to increase collaborative efforts
among staff from different departments within the Faculty.

 Member, Humanities and Social Sciences Higher Degrees by

Research Committee
In this role, I represent the postgraduate student body of the Faculty of
Humanities and Social Sciences. In my capacity, I report to the Associate
Dean of Graduate Studies, Associate Professor Kimi Coaldrake. One of my
achievements has been to compile a report for the Committee concerning

5
students’ views on the management of “at-risk” students as well as
expectations of pastoral care provided by the various Postgraduate
Coordinators.

 Webmaster, “Globalising Religions and Cultures in Asia Pacific”

Conference
I was solely in charge of designing and maintaining the website for this
conference, which was organised by the ARC Asia-Pacific Futures Network
and the Adelaide Asian Studies Network. I was able to resolve all technical
problems with the site as well as updating it in a timely and accurate
manner. The URL is http://www.adelaide.edu.au/sigevent08/

 Volunteer, University of Adelaide Archives

I have been a volunteer transcriber at the University of Adelaide Archives
from 2007 to 2008. In this position, I transcribe primary documents from
cursive longhand into modern script that could then be read by OCR
software. The objective is to digitise materials so that they could be
accessed electronically.
The University of Adelaide has provided me with much support and
assistance over the years in terms of both my personal and professional
development. Being a volunteer is my way of expressing my gratitude to
the University.
