hall meeting

Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner offered

a reminder to a district resident who questioned the current political climate.
Elections have consequences,
Sensenbrenner said during a town hall
meeting at West Bend City Hall March
29.
Sensenbrenner was responding to a
comment from a West Bend resident who
said she was disgusted with everything
that was going on in Washington. I dont
know how we got in such a bad place.
Sensenbrenner said that as far as the
president is concerned, both John
McCain and Mitt Romney said what this
president was going to do, and the president got elected by comfortable margins,
although not landslides, in 2008 and
2012.
He added the fact that Republicans
gained control of the House of
Representatives in 2010 and the Senate
last fall show that the voters wanted to
have a check put on this president by giving a majority to the opposition party in
both houses of Congress.
Sensenbrenner said that framers of
the United States Constitution placed
checks and balances to slow the legislative process down to make sure not

Spring ready tires

The weather is warmer and its time to
see how your vehicle survived the winter.
Spring is a great time to make those
repairs, check those fluid levels and see
how the winter has treated your tires. Your
tires are something you can check and
maintain, even if you arent mechanically
inclined.
The first thing to do is check the pressure. You should do this every couple of
weeks and before road trips. If you dont
check your tire pressure on a regular basis,
spring is a good time to start.
First, you need to determine the recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) for

the tire. This can be found on the tire or in

the owners manual. To check the pressure,
you will need a tire gauge. Most pressure
gauges you can buy today are digital and
easy to read. Unscrew the cap on the tire
stem and put on the pressure gauge. If it
reads 35 psi, that means the tire requires
35 pounds of pressure per square inch.
If air is needed to reach the recommend PSI, add air to the tire until you
reach that numberBUT DONT OVER
INFLATE IT. Under inflated tires have
greater friction with the road, which causes your vehicle to work harder. A vehicle
that works harder uses more gas and costs
more money.

Next, check your tires for wear; a worn

tire is smooth. Hopefully, your tires are not
completely bald. But, if they do still have
some tread, is it enough? A way to check
wear is to reach into your pocket, take out
a penny and place it into the tires groove,
with Lincolns head upside down and facing toward you. If you can see the top of
honest Abes head, its time to go shopping for new tires.
The way you drive affects your tires. To
ensure they last as long as possible, keep
these things in mind. Driving at high
speeds generates heat and will reduce the
life of the tread. Its also important to consider what you encounter on the road.

Avoid going over potholes and hitting

curbs when you turn. Also keep an eye out
for road kill. They may already be flattened, but dont run over those unfortunate
critters.
Another way to extend the life of your
tires is to rotate them. By rotating your tires,
you allow them to wear more evenly. A
good rule of thumb is to have them rotated
every 6,000 to 8,000 miles.
Spring means the flowers are blooming
and the weather is warmer. Take the time
to make sure your vehicle is operating at its
peak. By taking care of your tires, you can
make sure it runs its best from the ground
up.

Six vehicle warning signs your nose can notice

(NAPSI)While most motorists are fond
of whats known as that new car smell,
there are some other specific odors that
motorists should also be aware of.
Identifying these suspect smells early on
can help car owners be car care aware
and avoid the hassle and expense of an
unexpected breakdown.
The Car Care Council recommends a
sniff test of your vehicle to identify any
unusual smells, including the following six
warning signs:

1. The smell of burnt rubber could be

slipping drive belts or misplaced loose
hoses that might be rubbing against rotating accessory drive pulleys. Do not reach in
if the engine compartment is hot.
2. The smell of hot oil could mean that
oil is leaking onto the exhaust system. To
verify the leak, look for oil on the pavement
or smoke coming from the engine area.
3. The smell of gasoline is likely the sign
of a gas leak in some area of the vehicle
such as a fuel injector line or the fuel tank.

Any smell of fuel can result in a possible fire

hazard, so immediate attention should be
given.
4. The sweet smell of syrup may be a
sign that your car is leaking engine coolant
from a leaky component related to the cars
cooling system. Do not open the radiator
cap when it is hot.
5. The smell of burning carpet could be
a sign of brake trouble and a safety hazard.

especially if this smell is happening during

Kettle Moraine Y hosting Healthy Kids Day

On Saturday, April 25, the Kettle Moraine
YMCA is holding a free community event to
inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active. YMCAs Healthy Kids Day, the Ys
national initiative to improve health and wellbeing for kids and families, features activities
such as games, demonstrations, arts and crafts
to motivate and teach families how to develop
a healthy routine at home.
YMCAs Healthy Kids Day, celebrated at
nearly 1,300 Ys across the country, aims to get
more kids moving and learning, so they can
keep up the habit all summer long a critical
out-of-school time for kids health. When kids
are out of school, they can face hurdles or
gaps that prevent them from reaching their full

potential, related to hunger, water safety, learning, safe spaces to play, and health. Each year,
the Y helps over 9 million youth nationwide
hop the gap and achieve more, providing a
safe to place to learn, stay healthy and build
friendships.
The Y is so much more than sports, swimming, gymnastics and a place for kids to hang
out. We support families in their efforts to instill
healthy habits at home, said Kirsten Coenen,
Membership and Program Operations Director,
Kettle Moraine YMCA. We know that it can
sometimes feel like a challenge. So at Healthy
Kids Day, well encourage kids to stay physically and intellectually active all summer long,
and give families tips they can easily replicate

at home. Its free and open to the community.

In celebration of YMCAs Healthy Kids
Day, the Y offers the following tips to help families develop healthy habits:
Try, try, repeat There are many great
tasting fruits and vegetables that many kids
have never heard of, let alone tried. Grab a
new fruit or vegetable and encourage everyone in the family to try at least a bite.
Play around town Challenge the family
to play on a different playground every week.
Identify playgrounds at a variety of parks;
expand definitions of playgrounds to include
nature trails, a nearby stream, and a bike path.
Families at play for an hour a day From
walking to gardening, or swimming to shooting

hoops, make playful movement a part of your

familys day. To get 60 minutes of moderate
activity throughout your day just add 10 minutes here and 15 minutes there.

President (Barack) Obama has decided to double down, and he really does not
respect the institution of Congress even
though we were elected by the same people who elected him, Sensenbrenner said.
He added that while the process of government can be frustrating, its a lot better
than any alternative weve seen on the face
of the earth. Dont give up on our government because if you do that youre giving
up on democracy, and your not voting will
create a vacuum that people who do want
things out of government will be glad to fill
because youre not going to the polls and
completing the arrow for the candidate you
think represent your viewpoints.
