Title of Project: __Book Club/Book Buddies________________________________

Brief Description of Project
List objectives and describe benefits to students

The objective of this project is to improve literacy, comprehension, discussion,

and interest in literature in the library. There will be two parts of this project to
achieve this objective. First, the library will establish a book club for grades 3, 4,
and 5. Teachers will help select students who would benefit from the book club.
Students would be given a new book each month, and meet weekly to discuss
the book together and with the media specialist. At the end of each book,
students would create a product of some kind as a culminating project. For
grades K-2, students who need additional literacy skills/practice would be paired
with an older student. These students would meet weekly to read new childrens
books together and discuss them. These students would also complete an
activity each month related to one of the books they read. Books for students will
be selected using book award lists and accepted book review sites.
Budget
Describe how the money will be used

Money will be used to purchase book sets for the book club students and new
childrens literature for the literacy club students from a book seller such as
Scholastic or Barnes and Noble (books will be price checked). Additionally,
money will be used to purchase supplies such as paper, crayons, etc, for the
culminating projects students will complete.
Total: $500

Evaluation Plan
Briefly describe how you will evaluate the project

Effectiveness of the project will be evaluated in several ways. First, the

culminating projects will show how well books were read and understood, graded
using a rubric, and anecdotal data from weekly meetings will be collected.
Additionally, surveys for book club students (3-5) and their teachers (K-5) will be
administered at the end of each semester to evaluate how well literacy/reading
skills have improved.
