Compact overall dimensions.
Handle coupling with auto-restorable door interlock.
Constructional details
The design to the enclosure is square-skirt type. The cover is fixed to the box by external hinges and self-retained thumbscrews. After
loosening the thumbscrews, the cover can swing open up to 180 degrees, thus permitting complete access to fuses and terminals.
Flange openings are provided with rubber gaskets on the top and bottom of the enclosure for cable entry. An interlock between the
switch and the door provided in the handle coupling assembly which is fixed to the door, prevents it from opening in the ON position. The
box and the cover, powder coated in two-tone colour, lends an attractive appearance to the enclosure.

Switch-disconnector-fuse
Switched Neutral
In FN 32/63, the switched neutral pole is an integral part of the
switch-disconnector-fuse unit. For higher ratings, a double break,

site fittable switched neutral pole which is make before break after

Castell Interlock
Switch-disconnector-fuse units can be locked in OFF position with
the help of a castell interlock. This can also be used to interlock
two SDFUs. (12 different locks are available)

The terminals can be shrouded for protection against accidental
human contact with live terminals, and against phase-phase short
circuit through an external conducting path.
Auxiliary Contacts

Mechanical Interlock Kit
Two switch-disconnector-fuse units can be interlocked by a
mechanical interlock kit. After interlocking, the following three
positions are possible :
1) SDFU 1 in ON position & SDFU 1 in OFF position

2) SDFU 2 in ON position & SDFU 1 in OFF position
3) Both SDFUs in OFF position
Hence two mechanically interlocked SDFUs can be used as a
change-over switch.
Shaft Extension Kit

Shaft length can be increased with the shaft extension kit.
Handle Coupling
Two types of handle coupling (Type A & Type B) are available.
Operation of the handle coupling in any of the four quadrants is
possible (irrespective of the switch orientation) by selecting the
right handle coupling. Having selected the quadrant of operation
and switch orientation, Type A or Type B handle coupling can be
selected from the selection table given on the next page.
Fuse Puller
For easy and safe removal of fuses, it is advisable to use Fuse
Puller.

INTRODUCTION
CAM OPERATED ROTARY SWITCHES
CAM OPERATED ROTARY SWITCHES are defined as set of contacts arranged to make and break in a sequential fashion by which the
connected outputs will close and open the circuits.
These switches are suitable for AC as well as DC applications. By virtue of CAM design functions like make before break type of contacts
can be easily achieved. The number of positions and the switching angles are flexible and will offer the user a choice to decide based on
the requirement.
Another advantage, which can be derived, is the flexibility in the contact block selection, which gives the user the option of selection of
no of contacts as per his requirement. The choice also covers the rating of the applicable operational duty. This will ensure that the right
switch is chosen for the right application CAM operated switches also offers design flexibility to assemble complex switching programmes
to customize any switching application.
The basic operating mechanism of these switches depends on the type of application. Quick-make, quick-make-quick-break and spring
return operating mechanisms can be chosen.
Usage of good quality engineering materials for various components ensure that the switches have a long life with higher degree
electrical and mechanical endurance. Double Butt contacts with silver bimetal on copper ensure better making and breaking over
conventional knife-edge switches. Usage of high-grade engineering plastics like Nylon and Calcon for the components and glass filled
polyamide construction provides greater mechanical strength to the switches.
These Cam operated rotary switches have versatile mounting options to suit any kind of application. Special mounting options like
single hole, door interlocking and padlocking are also available.
Greater importance is attached to the aesthetics of the switches. These switches come with attractive combination of knobs and front
plates to render greater compatibility to the panel design. User defined marking on the script plate with different sizes of script plates
eliminate the need to label the switching in the panel.

APPLICATION
AC SWITCHES (SERIES S, SG & TP)

All switches are suitable for application in AC circuits. Most of the switches are rated for 690V AC and 6 and
10 Amps alone are rated for 400V AC. AC switches characterised by the Quick Make-Slow Break. These switches can be applied for
DC switching with derating and additional contacts in series according to the DC switching voltage.
AC/DC SWITCHES (SERIES D)

These switches have Quick Make-Break mechanism built in the latching design
ISOLATORS
These are basically ON-OFF switches, which can be used to isolate the power to a particular area of operation. These isolator
switches are available in a wide range from single pole to 12 pole design. Isolators with spring return are also available upto
4 poles. Preclose contacts are used for safety circuits and for neutral and earth line.
Isolators generally come under AC1/AC21 duty. Some times 3 pole ON-OFF switches are used to switch ON and OFF the motor, with
fuse protection, when they must be rated for AC3/AC23A duty.
CHANGEOVER SWITCHES
Changeover switches, also called as Double throw switches, they are used to operate two different circuits with different numbers of
inputs and output.
Changeover switches without jumper are used for connecting two different circuits, from two different sources (potential free contacts).
It may be due to two different operating voltages or any other incompatible lines.
All Double throw switch contacts by default are of Break Before Make type (BBM) to avoid overlapping of different circuits. Overlapping
changeover contacts can be offered against requirement.
MULTISTEP SWITCHES
These switches can also be called as Pole-Way switches, as they are generally described by Poles and Ways. Multi step switch does
the function of connecting different circuits in a common supply or vice-versa.
Multistep switches are basically two way switches available in 1 Pole, 2 Pole and 3 Pole versions.
GANG SWITCHES
These switches are called as Gang switches, as they increase the capacity of circuits by ganging. They are used for serialing and/or
paralleling to derive different circuit capacity. The power of battery supply can be increased by serialing. The power of resistor can
be increased by paralleling.
SELECTOR SWITCHES
With the help of these switches one can
Measure currents in different circuits (with or without current transformer) with a single ammeter and a switch.
Measure voltages between phases, and phase and neutral, with one switch.
Measure voltages and currents of a circuit with one voltmeter, one single switch.
CONTROL SWITCHES
Control Switches are a unique alternative for many of the PUSH BUTTON stations, where it is preferred to control a system with one
switch instead of many push buttons. Many positions of the switch are possible to derive combinations. These control switches are
rated for AC15/DC13.
AC15 switches need to carry an inrush current of 10 times the normal operating current, while energising solenoids and coils. Hence
our switches are suitably derated for AC15, while specifying the normal operating current.
Control switches are used to energise contactors for controlling motor operations. Most of the switches are of spring return type to
enable latching the circuit with contactor NO contact to facilitate tripping by contactor tripping device.
MOTOR SWITCHES
These switches directly operate the motor with AC3 or AC4 duty.
They are mainly used for motor forward-reversing, star-delta, two speed forward reverse. Special switches designed to operate with
a contactor with built-in tripping feature on power failure and overload are available.

CONSTRUCTION
The switches of S, TP, SG & RT type cater to almost every need of cam switch application. The contacts are of Double Break type with
shapes and design to ensure long switch life.
The switches have been designed and constructed with material and mechanisms to suit the applications of Selector switches, Control
switches, Motor duty switches as well as in Electronic circuitry, according to IEC 947-1, IEC 947-3, IEC 947-5 and VDE 0660 part 107.
The contact stage is the factor that decides the switch type. All switches are supplied with 2 contacts per stage. The terminals are
accessible from the sides.
The type switches are protected against accidental finger contact. Terminal screws have plus-minus screw driver slots to reduce wiring
time. SG16 type of switches are available with PUSH ON terminals for fast and efficient wiring.

CUSTOMISED PROGRAMME FORMATION
The design and construction of switches gives flexibility for making
customised programmes within a very short time. Basically an
engineer trying to specify the customised programme should
concentrate on the following points :
(a) Number of operating positions of switch handle
(b) Total number of contacts required
(c) contacts sequence in various positions of handle.
Please Note :(a) Each position should be idenitfied and marking required in those
postions should be specified. The possible latching angles (angle
between positons) is 30o, 45o, 60o, 90o.
Spring returns are also possible for upto half the latching angle.
(b) Total number of contacts can be decided based on the actual need.
You may arrange to your convenience and number them as 1/2, 3/
4, 5/6.... While making the switch, we may rearrange the contacts
to use solid jumpers to avoid loose wire jumpers
(c) Fill up the programme sheet by marking X at places where
contacts have to close.
For example, refer sketches given below:

(d) Fourth step is to decide the switch type (Ampere Rating).
