Recommendation Report
Background
Dynamo Industries is a large manufacturer of small electrical motors,
headquartered in Minnesota. The firm employs 9800 people. Recently, the
company has been trying to hire a new plant manager for the Pittsburgh
plant. Over the past 3 years, production costs have been extremely high and
there have been many labor problems. After a thorough recruitment effort
and some initial screening, the list of job candidates has been reduced to six
names.

Job Description:
The plant manager is ultimately responsible for efficiency of the entire plant.
In fulfilling his/her responsibilities, the PM frequently delegates duties. A PM
must be somewhat knowledgeable of production methods and capabilities of
equipment. Some of the activities a PM is directly/indirectly involved in are
establishing budgets and conducting hearings to resolve employee
grievances.

Criteria for the selection:

The criteria for the selection of the Plant Manager are solely based on the
experience and skills required in the job description for the position of the
PM. We are looking for people who can help reduce the costs and the arising
labors problems with his/her abilities and skills. The candidate must be able
to plan, allocate resources, manage production and coordinate people and
equipment.

Candidates to Be Selected:
1. George Martin
2. Jay Davis

3. Kathy Joyce

1.George Martin
George Martin - aged 44 years, is kept on the highest priority for this job as a
Plant Manager at the Pittsburgh plant. He is a Plant Manager of one of the
Dynamos competitors, so he has upper hand knowledge when it comes to
information regarding the strategies and the plans of Dynamos competitors.
We need a person for this job who has the experience and the skills to take
over this post and Martin is the right choice for that. Martin has very
impressive results when we take a look at his MBTI test results; he has the
ability to handle stress and is able resolve conflicts among the employees.
Martin being in his early 40s is not too young and not too old for this post, as
we need a mature experienced employee. Martins interviewer ratings are
also impressive. Martin with his skills and abilities can prove to be very
beneficial for the company.

2.Jay Davis
Jay Davis aged 50 years is on the second highest priority for this job as a
Plant Manager at the Pittsburgh plant. Davis is currently working as the VP
Production for one of Dynamos competitors, so he knows a thing or two
about Dynamos direct competitors. Firstly, we need a person for this post
who must be somewhat knowledgeable of production methods and
capabilities of equipment and as Davis has been working as a VP Production
for the past 6 years he has the experience and the knowledge required for
this position. Secondly, in the past Davis has worked as a Plant Manager for
12 years so he will be aware and will be able to resolve the problems and the
conflicts. He also has a high MBTI score which makes him a promising
candidate for the job. Davis will be able to provide the company with his
valuable insight which he earned from his years of experience working as a
VP Production and as Plant Manager.

3.Kathy Joyce

Kathy Joyce aged 36 years, is on the third priority for this job as a Plant
Manager at the Pittsburgh plant. Kathy Joyce is a young but experienced
candidate and can prove to beneficial for the company as she is currently
working as the Plant Manager in Dynamos San Diego plant so she is aware
of the circumstances and the situations that are faced by a plant manager.
We need a person who can conduct hearings to resolve employee
grievances, and by looking upon Joyces MBTI results we can tell that she has
the interpersonal skills to communicate with the people and help them with
their conflicts. Furthermore, Joyce has an excellent interviewers rating. This
transfer for Joyce from the San Diego plant to the Pittsburgh plant can also
prove to be a motivational factor for Joyce as she desires to be transferred to
Pittsburgh due to personal reasons. Joyce is a candidate who can also profit
the company with her skills in the long run as she is not very old, and can in
the latter years help and train other young employees to the culture of
Dynamo.

Recommendations for the Future:

The company should conduct a research why the Pittsburgh plant has
always been a trouble spot and then should hire people according to
the situation.
Aptitude tests and in-depth interviews should be held for the screening
of the candidates.
The company should also train the employee too so that he knows how
to face different situations in the long run of the company.
