Why do we need to update our location data ?

Actually,thelocationupdateprocessisdoneinaimto
exactlyidentifythelocationofthesubscriberswithinthe
networksothatanyincomingcallgoesdirectlytothecalled
subscriber.

Tofulfillthisaim,onecansaythatwemayupdatethe
systemwiththecellIDeachtimethesubscriberchanges
hisservingcell.TheMSC/VLRwillnowknowtheexactcell
youareroamingin.Thiswillresultinahugeamountof
locationupdatemessages.

Anextremeisnevertomakealocationupdateandtobe
pagedinallthenetwork.Thiswillcausehugeamountof
pagingmessages.

bemarked
asimplicitlydetached.(Temporarilyoutofservice)

Handover

Handoveristokeepcontinuityofthecallwhenthesubscriberisroaming
alongthenetworkmovingfromonecelltoanotherandmovingbetween
differentnodesinthenetwork.

Duringcall,theMSiscontinuouslymeasuringtransmissionqualityof
neighboringcellsandreportsthisresultstotheBSCthroughtheBTS.

TheBSC,beingresponsibleonsupervisingthecells,isresponsibleof
handoverinitiation.

Goodneighborrelationsbetweencellsisanimportantfactorinkeeping
thenetworkperformanceintheacceptedlevel.
