Croatian Roads
Road transport is the most developed and the most important form of land
transport, which transports the most passengers and goods in Croatia.
The existing motorway network is well developed and provides good
connectivity within the country. Croatia has seven international
airports and three airfields for smaller aircraft for commercial
purposes. Seaports have a special meaning in the transport network. The
most important and the largest Croatian port of Rijeka, our city.
To enter Croatia by vehicle, a driver`s licence, an car registration
card and vehicle insurance documents (including Green Card) are
compulsory.
Speed Restrictions:

50 km/h - within built-up areas

90 km/h - outside built-up areas

110 km/h - on major motor routes

130 km/h - on motorways

80 km/h - for motor vehicles with a caravan trailer

80 km/h - for buses and buses with a light trailer

Most of the medieval road were walking routes of Roman roads (up to the
14th century)

Weiss predicted that road with 1500 workers could be completed in two
summer seasons of work. The path from the river to St. Louis this road
crossing in 3 days (not as before, via Ljubljana 7 days!) The road is built
partly on the entire route, but in 1728, during the entire profile 1737.
The road has ended in Rijeka on the Pyramid ("Finis Carolina")

The road Karlovac Senj (1765 / 1775 to 1779) - Josephine road


According to the first draft of the road was supposed to finance the famous
Senj patrician ii wholesaler Mark Sussan who wanted call Strada Maestra. A
proposal for a new route gave engineers and Maximilian Fremaut Vinko truppi
The road began to build after Emperor Joseph II. traveled from Karlovac
Senj and realized that the condition of the existing road.

In Karlovac is a high obelisk carved "Josephinae principum ", and Senj is
an obelisk," Josephinae finis ".

Planning and construction of the Louisiana road (early 19th century)


In 1802. Engineer Philip Vukasovi carried out exploration works and gives
negative opinion of the commencement of the construction of canals and
roads.
In 1803. Filip Vukasovi is becomes manager (designer and builder) for
building Louisiana road from Karlovac to Rijeka.
"The City of Rijeka was one point where it had to start Louisiana road
construction, was one point where had to turn on the Louisiana road all
trade and all traffic from the Croatian " (Rudolf Strohal, "With Lousiana
road")
The construction begins on February 28 1803 in Rijeka. Filip Vukasovi sets
the route so that in the coastal areas to avoid strong buse and in Gorski
Kotar seeks to link major settlements and forest areas. In 1809 dies Philip
Vukasovi and Louise road, arrived 4 (14?) kilometers from Karlovac. Louise
Road is open from 1st December 1811.godine, was named Via Ludovicea named
the wife of Francis I.
