(This survey forms a part of Mphilresearch project that aims to investigate
1) Knowledge management practices within Higher Education institutions in the
Pakistan,
2) What the contributing factors are, that hinders or promotes the implementation
of knowledge
management and its success,
3) Whether there is a common approach towards this new management tool called
Knowledge
management within the context of Higher Education, and
4) Whether knowledge management is used as a management tool for Knowledge

There are various definitions for the term Knowledge Management. Two very broad
definitions are listed below.
1. Knowledge management is about connecting people to people and people to
information to create competitive advantage (referenced in Servan 2002)
2. Knowledge management is the systematic process of identifying, capturing
and transferring information and knowledge people can use to create,
compete, and improve ( referenced in Servan, 2002)
