Computer Applications I
Grade Level: 9, 10, 11, and 12 One-semester program
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Computer Applications I is a one semester course that is designed to help students master beginning and intermediate skills in word
processing, spreadsheet basics, data base management, and presentation/multimedia production. Students utilize Microsoft Office 2007
which includes Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, to complete integrated computer activities and produce professional-looking
documents. Students also further explore, research, and communicate via the Internet.
RATIONALE
This area of instruction provides content for knowledge and skills required in the technology-based workplace. The demand will continue
to expand for individuals who use computer hardware and software to create documents, gather information, and solve problems. This
class is vital for students planning to enter the workforce or post-secondary education.
GRADUATE GOALS
To function as economically literate citizens through the development of personal consumer economic skills, awareness of social and
governmental responsibility and an understanding of business operation
To demonstrate interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills necessary to function in multicultural business settings
To select and apply tools of technology as they relate to personal and business decision making
To manage data from all of the functional areas of business needed to make wise management decisions
To communicate effectively as writers, listeners, and speakers in social and business settings
To develop career awareness and related skills in order to make viable career choices and become employable in a variety of business
settings
