INTRODUCTION
Fault Insertion Program 3.0:
The ATech Fault Insertion Program allows the instructor to insert faults into 19 trainers simultaneously
from a single computer. Trainers can be connected to a communications port (COM 1/COM 2) on a
computer or to a serial hub* on a network. To insert faults into more than two trainers you will need a
serial hub that can be obtained through ATech. Below is a list of trainers that will work with this
program.
* A serial hub is a device that creates virtual communications ports on a local area network. For
instance, a typical computer has one communications port (COM). With a 16 port serial hub you can
create an additional 16 COM ports on a single computer. The serial hub allows for a total of 17 COM
ports.

Instructors Management Program 3.0:

The ATech Instructors Management Program has the same features as the Fault Insertion Program plus
many advanced features. Some of these features are record keeping via a local area network or a
student floppy disk, numerous faults sent to multiple trainers at once, monitoring of student progress
through CBI Computer Based Instruction programs (CBI Programs Monitor) and fault insertion over a
network (ATech Network System). These are only a few of the added features. You will learn about
more as we go.
This program has a new feature called Centralized Record Keeping. Centralized Record Keeping
allows the instructor to store all student data in a central location on a network. Any computer running
an ATech CBI program can store student data in this location. No student disk is required.
The CBI Programs Monitor allows the instructor to view the progress of a student throughout the
program. The instructor can view student progress in the program, student answers, received faults etc.
The CBI Programs Monitor also allows the instructor to send faults to the trainer, over the network, for
a student to troubleshoot. Below is a list of trainers that will work with this program.
Electricity/Electronics:
Basic Automotive Electricity (Model 1810W Version 2.0 and higher only)
Basic Automotive Electronics (Model 1820W Version 2.0 and higher only)
Engine Performance:
Engine Control Fundamentals (Model 3610 Version 2.1 and higher only)
Engine Control System Operation (Model 3620 Version 2.1 and higher only)
Engine Control Diagnosis Fundamentals (Model 3630 Version 2.1 and higher only)
Vehicle Computer Controlled Fault Insertion (Model 611)
The ATech Network System allows the instructor to insert faults into compatible trainers (see the list
below). Faults can be entered into 19 trainers at once. Up to 5 faults can be sent to each trainer. The
program can be set up to enter faults into 2 trainers from one computer via COM 1 and COM 2. To
enter faults into more than 2 trainers from one computer, you will need at least one Serial Hub
(available from ATech). The instructor can set up the program to automatically send faults to each
trainer. Once the student completes all the faults, from that trainer, the same set of faults can be sent to
the next student. This reduces the amount of time the instructor spends administering the program and
allows for more student contact. Below is a list of trainers that will work with this program.
