CAUTION

Always use the peeler with the right side cover (viewed from the front of
the printer) closed except when the media (paper) is being loaded.

When opening the right side cover, ensure it is fully open and resting on
the end stops on top of the main printer cover before making
adjustments, loading or unloading the media.

Do not knock or scratch the peeling sensors located on the small bars
protruding from the front of the printer. They are in close proximity to the
control panel and behind the front door.

Use standard label media (paper) with liner. Unsuitable media may cause
paper jams or improper operation.

Wipe off dirt, dust, glue residues, etc. stuck to the peeler with a soft cloth
that is soaked in a neutral detergent. Always switch off the power to the
printer and remove the power cord before cleaning.

Do not use a volatile liquid such as benzine or thinner, which can

deteriorate the rollers and plastic parts.

Function of the peeler

The peeler is designed to peel labels off the liner (backing material) and the liner is
wound around the internal rewinder shaft automatically.

2 Loading the media (paper)

Use the standard media (paper) with liner (backing material) of less than 0.07mm
(0.003) in thickness; both inward- and outward-wound rolls of media can be used.
Inward-wound media loading

Outward-wound media loading

For details about the normal method of loading media in to the printer, please see the
users manual of the printer. This manual is only concerned with the additional specific
requirements for the peeler operation.

CAUTION

If liner thicker than specified above is used, labels

may not be peeled off properly, causing paper jams.

Do not use liner with notches as shown on the right,

which may be cut midway through the winding.

Notch

The media loading procedure is shown below:

(1) Slide the roll of media onto the paper roll shaft and attach the blue paper
holder and fix it with the knob turned clockwise, as described in the user
manual.

(2) Route the media out to the front of the print head / platen mechanism as shown
and described in detail in the user manual leaving about 60cm (2 ft) of excess
media beyond the front of the platen.
(3) Peel off labels from the liner (manually, by fingers) over the first part of the
media in a length of about 60cm (2 ft). Then route the media out to the peeling
roller at the front of the printer.
(4) Pull the peeling roller towards the front of the printer about 1cm (0.39) to easily
pass the peeled liner under the front mechanism block to the rewinder shaft as
shown.

Rewinder shaft

(5) Wind the beginning part of the peeled liner around the rewinder shaft and turn it
counterclockwise.

U-shaped stopper pin

(6) Fix the peeled liner with the U-shaped stopper pin supplied.

CAUTION
The U-shaped stopper pin can be fitted only one way round!
Be careful that the longer shaft of the stopper pin is fitted in the shallow groove
of the rewinder shaft. The liner is sandwiched between the longer shaft of the
stopper pin and the groove. The shorter shaft of the stopper pin is fitted in the
deep groove of the rewinder shaft without sandwiching the liner.

(7) Lastly turn the rewinder shaft counterclockwise to remove any slack in the
media or liner. Remember to lower the print head and pinch rollers and lock
them in place.

3 Unloading the liner (backing material)

When the outer diameter of the liner around the rewinder shaft is approx 125mm
(4.9), the black lever of the paper-full sensor at the deepest right lower corner of the
rewinder shaft space stops further printing and the message Paper Full is shown
on the LCD Display.

To unload the liner from the printer:

(1) Pull out the U-shaped stopper pin.
(2) Slide the rolled liner from the rewinder shaft.
(3) Cut away the roll of excess line. Remember to leave some excess liner free
to re-wrap around the rewinder shaft again.

4 Peeler operation
Enable the Peel ON from the control panel of the printer
You must enable the peeling function using the control panel of the
printer. Please refer to the users manual for detailed operation of the
Menu System. A brief explanation is as follows:

Peel/Cut
Function

From the menu system, select the *After Print Menu Group.
Choose the Peel/Cut Function from the list of menu items and
select the Peel On function from the possible values.

5 Peeling position
The peeling or tear position will be set automatically if the value Peel ON is selected
via the control panel or software. The distance fed between sensor position and
peeling position is a 132.9mm (5.23). To adjust peeling position by software use the
STX fnnn command. The command-designated value will be valid until a reset is
performed. For details, see the Command Reference manual.
The peeling position can also be set from the control panel. The value
of the Paper Position within the After Print menu group can be
adjusted from 20.3mm (0.8) to 76.2mm (3). For details, see the
users manual of the printer.

6 Commands
The following commands are related to operation of the peeler. For details of each
command, see the separate Command Reference manual.

Peeling position setting command STX fnnn

This command sets the amount of feed between sensor position and peeling
position.

Software switch setting command STX Vn

This command temporarily changes the contents of the optional function setting in
memory. With this command, the peeler function can be ON/OFF temporarily.
Note: When the peeler function is ON, the media will not be fed if there is still a label
waiting to be removed from the printer even if the FEED key is pressed.
