After a long year of service, the chapter hosts the traditional Presidentia l Gala
where the chapter pays tribute to our own member volunteer. This event was

Dear members of Team 2007 and fellow Jaycees & friends,
I am pleased to announce that the Chapter Theme for our beloved Philippine
New York Jaycees chapter for the new year of 2007 is
"DRIVEN TO EXCELLENCE"! The 2007 chapter theme was selected at our
recent Planning Session at the Poconos for Team 2007 earlier this month,
through the help of the chapter Vice Presidents, Staff officers and and Past
Presidents.
Our chapter can now embark and take on the challenges that a new year
brings by keeping in mind what drives us PNY Jaycees to do what we do. It
is our hope that our Inherent "drive to excellence" is what will help propel our
chapter to achieve greatness in the year 2007 and once again help "continue
the legacy of excellence" that our unique ethnic-based chapter has had in its
glorious forty-three year history since 1963.
The basement of the Our Lady of Peace Church hall was decorated with
snowflakes and silver trees reminiscent of the holiday look from fashion
department store Bloomingdales. With everyone decked out in their holiday
attire, it was a wonderful way to meet up with friends and members between
the Christmas holiday and the New Year’s holiday.
President Vivian thanked her “Share the Vision” team and all the members
who contributed to the success of the chapter in 2006. A list of all the awards
presented are listed in this Tambuli issue along with other chapter honors.
Special guests that evening included one of our founding members and Past
President Joseph Tieng, Sr. Friends of Jaycees also came out to celebrate
our successes with us. We were also blessed with many new faces, two of
whom became our newest members for the year.- Joanne dela Pena and
Melissa Villaluna

Hopefully, the great success that our chapter has had in the past year of
2006 ("Sharing the Vision") will carry on into the coming year of 2007! With
the guidance of the Lord, together we can achieve great success once again
in 2007 and take great pride as members of the Philippine New York
Jaycees! May we be blessed by the Lord in the coming year of 2007 in what-
ever we do! Wishes of a most joyous New Year to everyone!

The 1st annual GMM held in January at Cap 21 was a great success. There
was a full attendance from members, officers, supporters, alumni and guests;
it was a chance to catch up with old members from the holiday break and to
meet new members. It was also a chance to showcase “Share the Vision”

event was held in Oneonta, New York.
As for my experience, I can say that this was the most awaited convention
that all of us were waiting for. To those who are new to the Year End Con-
vention, it was a different experience from the quarter convention because
the New York State Jaycees gave awards and recognition to the different
New York State Chapters, officers, and members who have done a great job,
work, and effort throughout the year. I am proud to say our chapter received
most of the awards - from the projects, members, officers, VPs, President to
the newsletter. The minor and major awards showed that our hard work and
teamwork paid off. Even though we didn’t get the Chapter of the Year award,
I truly believe that we are still the no.1 Chapter of the New York State be-
cause of the accomplishments we have done and the experiences that we
got for the year 2006. It is within us that we can say we are the winner. For
this, I can say that this will be the most unforgettable convention I have ever
been.

Year-End Convention Perspective – Vicky Chang
During the Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, our chapter celebrated 2006 by
winning 14 awards in the Fourth quarter and 12 awards for the Year at the
New York State Junior Chamber’s 2006 Year End Convention in Oneonta,
New York. Some of the awards included Outstanding President (Vivian
Velasco), Most Outstanding Vice Presidents (Gary Abasolo, Florina Monroy
and Jaime Torrejon) and Top Growth Chapter. In addition to garnering nu-
merous state awards, chapter members participated in training sessions in
areas of Individual Development and Membership Services as well as present-
ing impressive arguments on important issues at the convention’s debate
competition. Chapter members also put on their dancing shoes at the conven-
tion’s year-end party.
State conventions are held every quarter, and they are excellent opportunities
to enhance our leadership skills through various seminars. State conventions
bring New York Jaycee chapters together to build future leaders while creating
a strong fellowship that will last a long time.

FIRST INTERNATIONAL VISIT to NYC

NEW YORK – On Wednesday, 28 February, The Philippine-New York Junior
Chamber (Jaycees) welcomed the 2007 year by hosting its first event with a
very successful Membership Nite Social to welcome dignitaries from Ger-
many: Mr. Dirk Shuhmacher, Vice-President of Bamberg Jaycees and his
girlfriend, Ms. Sonia Vilaclara. It was held at Zanzibar lounge in Manhattan
from 6:30pm to
10pm. It was also
the Chapter’s first

year.

ual Development Vice President (IDVP) Vicky Chang, Management Develop-
ment Vice President (MDVP) Florina Monroy, and Chairwoman of the Board
Vivian Velasco. Presidential Adviser / Senator Antero Martinez and Past
President Tom Panzone, along with 40 Jaycee members and friends, joined
the fun-filled evening.
VP Shuhmacher is managing his own company in Bamberg. He made a five-
minute presentation about Bamberg Jaycees. The city of Bamberg is located
in Southern Germany (North of Munich, South of Frankfurt). They have 140
members, headed by a president and a vice president who are appointed to
their positions to serve for a one-year term. He even gave out flyers about the
city. He learned about The Philippine-New York Jaycees through the website,
www.philnyjaycees. org. He initially emailed the New York State Jaycees
about his visit. “I am grateful to the Phil-NY Jaycees’ prompt response on my
request to meet,” VP Shuhmacher said.

PNY Visits Sister Chapters in Manila

Phil NY has three sister chapters in the Philippines – JCI Makati, JCI Pateros
Balut and JCI Manilena. These past 6 months, our sister chapters have
hosted many chapter members which is quite unusual since we don’t often
schedule our visits in close succession. First was President Gary and his
sister past MDVP Alice Abasolo who visited in November. In December,
Past President Christina Corcuera and 2005 Director Jericho Luna presented
the donations raised from the Simbang Gabi mass to JCI Pateros Balut.
Soon after in February/March, the sister chapters hosted PP/Gov. Krizteen
Dulay and PP/Sen. Jocelyn Bernal.

One thing for sure is that we are being asked to put together the “New York

those who would just like to participate in the proceedings, that would be
