Prime Configuration

PART 1 : Setting up Prime for Deployment

STEP 1 : Edit Rules (Business Policies)
STEP 2 : Add Infrastructure Devices
STEP 3 : Create Domains
STEP 4 : Add/Edit User Roles
STEP 5 : Infrastructure/User/LDAP/Domain Synchronization
STEP 6: Create Service Areas
STEP 7: Create Service Templates
STEP 8: Assign Provisioning Privileges
STEP 9 : Start taking orders for provisioning services

STEP 1: Edit Rules (Business Policies)

What are the Business Rules

Business/IT policies that applies to UC Environment
Some Example Policies :

Default Call Manager Password

Default Call Manager PIN
Change Password on next login
Authorization Required for Add Order

Provides a default template that applies to all domains

STEP 2: Add Infrastructure Devices

Add CUCM, CUC, IM & P and LDAP to Prime
Add Infrastructure to Prime
Communications Manager
Unity Connection
IM & Presence

STEP 3 : Create Domains

Add southernxcare domain to Prime

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Go to Design > User Provisioning Setup

Click Add to add a new domain
Add the Call Processor to the Domain
Add the message processor to the domain
Pick the AD server to be associated with this domain

STEP 4 : Add/Edit User Roles

Eg: What phones and services the existing group can have.
There are three predefined User Roles Employee, Executive and Pseudo.
User roles control which products and services a user can be ordered.
The default user roles are:
-

EmployeeDefault role assigned to new users. The Employee user role

should be

configured to match the typical setup of employees in your organization. If you

do not
configure the employee user role to meet your needs, you may not see all the
desired options
in the employee user record.
-

Executive
PseudoUsed to order phones that do not have an associated user.
Pseudo users cannot

be renamed or removed. This is useful if UCM is LDAP integrated and if you want
a push
new phone to UCM without creating a new user in UCM. In the typical
provisioning order, the
user and the phone are provisioned on UCM and this is a way to bypass that
process for
Lobby phones, Break room phones etc.

STEP 5 : Infrastructure/User/LDAP/Domain Synchronization

To perform Infra/User/LDAP/Domain sync on the UC applications and to bring in
the user, user services, dial plan, route plan information from the UC applications
into Prime Collaboration Provisioning.
Infrastructure Synchronization:

Its bringing in the Infrastructure objects (dial plan objects, route plan objects
etc.) from UCM to Prime Database, from Unity Connection to Prime Database and
from IM&P server to Prime Database. These infrastructure elements brought into
Prime will help us create Service Areas.
User Synchronization
Pick UCM from Design > Infrastructure Devices> and click on start User
Synchronization.
This brings in the users services from UCM to Primes Database.
Run User Sync for Unity Connection as well to bring in all the user service details
into Primes database.
Run the LDAP synchronization to bring in the users from LDAP into the domains.
Design > User Provisioning setup < Open the quickview on the Domain > Start
LDAP Synchronization.
Domain Synchronization will associate the users in the domains with the services
pulled from all the UC applications. This sync will now associate the device that
was allocated to the user.
You can find the Phone being pulled into Primes Database by looking at the
Deploy > Inventory Browser > Global Resources > VoiceTerminal.
You can also find the users brought into Prime in the same tree under VOIPInfo.
This inventory browser represents what is brought into Prime from the UC
applications.

STEP 6: Create Service Areas

Domain : Grouping of Users,
Service Area: Physical Location
Physical Location Specific Details for User Provisioning:
Device Pool
Phone Number (DID)
Directory number block:
Numbers within a directory number block are relative to the Cisco Unified
Communications Manager on which they are being created. Therefore, the prefix
portion of a directory number block may or may not map to a Numbering Plan
Area/Network Numbering Exchange (NPA/NXX). Routing via various gateways will

ultimately determine how the directory numbers on a specific Cisco Unified

Communications Manager are interpreted during a call setup.
For example, if prefix = 408, first number = 0, last number = 9999, and
minimum length = 4, then the range of the directory number block would be
4080000 through 4089999 (block size would be 10000). Provisioning handles
directory numbers the same way as Cisco Unified Communications Manager
handles them.
If a subscriber tries to order a service from a Service Area that does not have a
directory number block, the order is paused in the workflow until that directory
number block has been added. You can also set up individual directory numbers
using the Directory Number Inventory component.

STEP 7: Create Service Templates

Pre-populating configuration parameters

Device Description
Protocol
Speed Dial Settings

Eg: new template for Endpoint and Line

To create 2 service templates: one for endpoint and one for line.
1. Go to Design > User Provisioning Setup > Open up the Domain tree to the left
> Service Templates
2. Click Add to create a new Service Template
3. Call it LineTemplate
4. Pick the Call Processor UCM and pick the type of template as Line under
Service.
Pick the Service Area to assign the template to and set pick theUser Role as
Employee.
Provisioning attributes:

Endpoint template same.

STEP 8: Assign Provisioning Privileges

Deploy > User Provisioning > Click on the username > Manage Authorization
Roles
The Advanced Ordering and Advanced Assigned needs to be checked.

Provisioning Workflow:
Deploy > User provisioning > click on the username > New Service
Select the service area
Pick Endpoint Service in the next screen
Pick a Cisco phone.
Assign the MAC Address
Pick the ServiceTemplate = EndpointTemplate.
The protocol gets automatically set.
In the next screen, click on Not Assigned.
Now select Chosen Line and apply the ServiceTemplate=LineTemplate and the
Directory Number
Hit Continue to see the Order Summary Screen. Verify everything in the
summary screen and hit Confirm.
Click on OK button.
Click on the order number in the provisioning history to open up the order details
