AIM

This course offers self confidence in effective utilization of GIS technology tools for intended applications.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course consists of sessions for GIS Core Technology, Applications and Laboratory sessions for GIS. This
programme uses a range of learning strategies, namely, class room lecture sessions, laboratory exercises,
tutorials, assignments and interactions with domain experts. To evaluate the understanding level of trainees,
an examination will be conducted.
ELIGIBILITY

Essential:

i) Bachelor’s/Master’s degree

and

Sponsorship from Central / State Government Departments, Autonomous Organisations, Corporate Bodies,
Academic Institutes, Private and Voluntary Organisations.

ii) Students registered for Ph.D. degree can be considered as a special case provided the university is able to
convince that they are going to use/using GIS technology for their research work.

Desirable:

Experience on working with personal computers.


CURRICULUM OUTLINE:
• Fundamentals of GIS—Introduction to basic concepts including definition of GIS, principles,
techniques, procedures and terminology of GIS and digital representation and data acquisition.
Coordinate System and projections
• Geographic data concepts— Geospatial data components, data types/models, database
management, RDBMS concepts, database design.
• GIS Data Models: Raster based GIS. Spatial referencing in raster based GIS: definition and
representation of raster data, concepts of raster based GIS data structure, data capture and basic
operations of spatial analysis with raster GIS. Vector based GIS: Definition, concepts of vector based
GIS, data structures, data capture and operations of spatial analysis with vector GIS. Advantages and
disadvantages in raster and vector based GIS.
• Elementary spatial analysis and modelling.
• Introduction to networks in GIS: Definition, components and operations/applications
• Surfaces and TINs.
• Introduction to remote sensing and digital image processing as a source of input to GIS.
• High Resolution Images for Developmental Mapping.
• Overview of GPS and its applications.
• Software and hardware requirements for GIS.
• GIS project planning, management and implementation techniques.
• Applications of GIS including Concepts of WebGIS.
• Hands -on practical exposure in Industry Standard GIS software

• Attested copies of Degree certificate(s)

Fee Structure
The course fee is payable through an A/C payee crossed demand draft drawn in favour of “PAY & ACCOUNTS
OFFICER, NATIONAL REMOTE SENSING CENTRE”, payable at “HYDERABAD”. The above course fee DOES NOT
include to and fro travel cost, daily allowance, boarding and lodging expenses of the participants. The draft
along with the filled-in application together with certificate of sponsorship, duly signed Check list and 2 stamp
size photographs should be mailed to

Deadlines
Qualified applicants will be accepted to the program on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications should be
sent at least 40 days in advance before the commencement of the course to allow sufficient time for
administrative procedures.
Eligiblity

Application Procedure
