Upper Morne LEnfer member

Lithological Description:
-

Massive sands ( ferruginous, grey, silty to very silty clays with sand and silt laminae)
Lignitic clays ( lignites and porcellanites occur but less common than Erin Formation) Lignites
with interbedded clays are five feet thick in places.

Foraminferal Faunas:
-

Poor brakish water faunas e.g fragile arenaceous specimen of Miliamina Ammobaculites.
Small brown species of ohdium and Ammonia similar to faunas of Erin formation.

Stratigraphic Relationship:
Top is uncomformable beneath Erin Formation. The base is characterized by a massive sand overlying
Lot 7 silt member.
Notes:
Member varies in thickness from 750ft in the syncline of south Forest reserve to 500ft on south flank of
the western end of the field. At extreme western end it is nothing below overlying uncomformable Erin
formation.
Lot 7 Silt Member
Lithological Description:
-

Grey silt to silty clay, has thin white very fine grained sand laminae. Thickness from 300ft to min
of 50ft.

Stratigraphic Relationship:
-

Widespread throughout south-east Trinidad, used as marker horizon for structure map
construction.

Lower Morne LEnfer Member:

Lithological Description:
-

Upper similar to Upper Morne LEnfer member, has massive sand, well bedded, some cross
bedding, thin clay sand intervening <50ft of thickness.
Less sandy in the lower part, consist of silts and silty clays with sands, gradual transition to pure
clay of Upper Forest Cay member below.

Foramineferal Faunas:
-

Poor brackish water faunas, floods of Ammonia Beccarii replace Elphidium/Ammonia faunas of
the Upper Morne LEnfer.

Physical properties of sands:

Average porosity of 36.7% avergage water saturation of 21%. Oil pitch impregnation in sand of
upper part of member in central part of Forest Reserve.
Thickness of formation range from 800ft to 500ft.

Stratigraphic Relationship:
-

Within the field it is conformable with the overlying and underlying beds.

Notes:
-

Lower part of member belongs to Forest and Cruse Formation ( seen from palaeontology).
Faunuas mainly calcareous and composed essentially of Buliminella, Boliviana, Uvigerina and
Lenticulina with triangulare Drooger.
Arenaceous species relatively rare and are restricted to small specimen of Glomospira,
Trochammina and Ammodiscoid

Upper Forest Clay Member:

Lithological Description:
-

Pure clay at the base, grading upwards to silty clay, then to alternating silts, silty clay and thin
sands of the overlying member.
Shows low resistivity on electric logs, used as marker for horizon.

Foraminiferal Fauna:
-

Rich fauna of both arenaceous and calcareous species with Bulimids and Lagenids prominent
together with abundance of Miliolids ( Quinquelo , Triloculina, Pyrgo )
Rich in Uvigerina isidroensis
Arenous component dominated by Cydommina

Stratigraphic Relationship:
-

Upper boundary is a transitional one.

Lower boundary uncomformable on the underlying Forest Sands member of forest formation.
Younger from east to west bedded Forest sands overlain by upper forest clay, whereas thickness
of Forest Sands member at eastern and western end is 1200ft total thickness of Forest Sands is
approximately 4500ft.
