Specification

Nitocote SN Creme is used to impregnate reinforced concrete

used in bridges, roads and high-rise structures, to protect
from attack by chloride ions and water intrusion. Nitocote SN
Creme is suitable for use on any alkaline substrate that has
been treated previously with concentrated or undiluted
impregnating agents, such as alkoxysilanes.

The penetrating treatment shall be an aqueous, solvent free,

cream consistency, silane based water repellent system. The
active ingredient content is not less than 80% by weight. After
application, impregnated surfaces shows up as a white coating
for normally 15 to 30 minutes, so that it is distinguishable
from untreated concrete surfaces.

Description

Nitocote SN Creme

Nitocote SN Creme is an aqueous, solvent free, cream

consistency, silane based water repellent. Being thixotropic,
it has an outstanding ability to impregnate high quality
concrete and reinforced concrete. The silane active ingredient
penetrates the substrate within 30 minutes to several hours
upon application, depending on the porosity and quality of
the substrate. On reaction with the substrate, Nitocote SN
Creme is converted into a polymeric silicone resin. A creamy
layer forms initially, but this then disappears completely.
Nitocote SN Creme is designed to penetrate deeply into
concrete to provide optimum protection against absorption
of water and pollutants as well as freeze/thaw cycles. This
effect should not be confused with the beading effect
imparted by impregnating agents that is often referred to as
water repellency. Beading is only a surface effect and it only
plays a secondary role in protecting the substrate. Concrete
treated with Nitocote SN Creme has initially only a moderate
beading effect, but this increases after the surface has been
wetted.

Instructions for use

Preparation
All surfaces should be dry and free from contamination such
as oil, grease, loose particles, decayed matter, moss, algal
growth, laitance and all traces of mould release oils and curing
compounds. Where moss, algae or similar growths have
occurred, treatment with a proprietary biocide should be carried
out after the grit blasting process.
Application
Nitocote SN Creme is best applied to the concrete by the
airless, spraying technique, undiluted and in the desired
thickness. Brushes, lambskin rollers or spatulas may be used
for smaller areas.
Up to 400g/m2 can be applied in one operation to vertical
surfaces and roofs without the loss of material. The exact
amount depends on the absorbency of the substrate. If the
substrate is of high quality and hence not very absorbent, do
not apply more than 200g/m2 in one operation, as it may take
several hours to penetrate completely. At a higher application
rate, the impregnating film might liquefy due to the alkalinity
of the concrete and thus may start to run off. A second coat of
Nitocote SN Creme may be applied at any time if deemed
necessary.
Limitations

Nitocote SN Creme only impregnates concrete that has an

uniformly dry surface with no damp patches. Application
should not be carried out in the rain. Should it start to rain
during application, stop treatment and cover the impregnated
areas.

Storage

Shelf life
Nitocote SN Creme has a shelf life of 12 months if kept in a dry
store in the original, unopened containers.

Storage conditions
Store in cool, dry conditions, away from sources of heat and
naked flames, in the original, unopened containers. If stored at
high temperatures and/or high humidity conditions the shelf
life will be reduced.

Precautions

Health and safety

Nitocote SN Creme should not come into contact with skin
and eyes or be swallowed. Avoid inhalation of vapour and spray.
Use only in well ventilated areas. In case of insufficient
ventilation wear suitable respiratory protection.
Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face
protection. Barrier creams provide additional skin protection.
Should accidental skin contact occur, remove immediately with
a suitable skin cleanser followed by washing with soap and
water.
