A passion
for welding and cutting dating back to 1909.
ince there foundation in 1909 and 1924, SAF and FRO have never ceased to participate in the evolution
of the welding and cutting profession. At the beginning, using the autogeneous oxyacetylene flame
welding technique (hence numerous early partnership agreements with AIR LIQUIDE), SAF (La Soudure
Autogne Franaise) and FRO (Fabbriche Riunite Ossigeno) were presented as the most important companies
on welding the markets in France and Italy. Their main activity was focussed on ship repairs, this was soon
joined by a boiler-making activity. As early as 1913, SAF recognised the advantages offered by
the coated electrode welding process and in 1919 launched the first with an all-welded construction ship:
the SAF 4 which facilitated the carrying out of ship repair activities.
Since then, the evolutions of the Submerged Arc, TIG, MIG/MAG, plasma, laser, electron beam technologies
have progressively been used by SAF and FRO, and marketed to their customers.
Since 1993, SAF and FRO have been integrated into the Air Liquide Welding group (Air Liquides equipment
and consumables activity), which allows our customers to benefit from global solutions, processes, gases,
equipment and consumables. Thanks to our experience in welding and cutting techniques, SAF and FRO can
today propose innovative solutions aimed to improve the productivity of industrialists involved in metal
working.
SAF and FRO are now united to provide the best of welding and cutting.
CTAS, a unique innovation capacity at the customers service. Thanks to CTAS (Technical Centre for Welding
Applications) and the design offices of our production units, we can offer innovative solutions to
improve your productivity, your production quality as well as your industrial environment. By integrating
and mastering the latest technologies, and by constantly improving the existing processes, equipment and
consumables we create tomorrows products.
Permanently listening to our customers
What helps us to create and propose these specific innovations is our capacity of listening to your needs and
understanding your requirements thanks to the permanent feed-back of our technical and commercial teams.
They understand perfectly that your company is under a constant competition pressure, on your specific
markets and that you need to adapt your organization to a moving environment, the best answer being an
improvement of productivity Thanks to this innovation we are sure that we are able to help you in
succeeding in your challenge of productivity optimisation.
In this catalogue, you will find the complete range of our equipment for manual welding and cutting
applications (MMA, MIG/MAG, TIG, Plasma and Flame processes) and the collective and individual
protection products for welders. Dedicated catalogues are also available for welding consummables (coated
electrodes, wires, rods, fluxes, etc...) and automatic application in welding and cutting, please request a copy.

Spot mode
The power source starts to weld when the trigger is
pushed, but the welding stops automatically after a
pre-set delay.
MIG pulse
The current varies during welding, the power
source is imposing it a very precised shape wave.
The pulse is above all used for stainless steel wires
and light alloys.
Synergic MIG
The welding parameters are programmed in the
power source set for a common evolution
according to a predefined law. One single setting is
needed which facilitates the use of those machines
and improves the welding quality.
2 times mode
The welding occurs by pulling the torch's trigger.
It stops by loosening the trigger.
Soft start
Firstly the wire advances slowly just till the
short-circuit point and the arc start; the chosen
welding speed is then set up.
OPTIsystem
Welding parameters optimization following needs
of the welder (available only on OPTIMAG and
OPTIPULS installations).
A.N.D. (Arc Non Disruption)
Device avoiding arc disruptions (available only on
DIGI@PULS-DIGI@WAVE installations).
Intermittance mode
This is a point mode which is repeatable. If the
push on the trigger is maintained, the welding will
be retaken after an other delay which is as well to
be regulated.
Speed regulation
The welding wire spool is electronicaly regulated
which imposes a constant speed of the spool.
Burn back
To solve the problem of wire stiching in the molten
pool on completion of the weld cycle.

Decisive advantages:
Regulation and numerical controls: total control of alimentation waves forms for an improvement of the processes, and of the
thicknesses, and exact parameters reproduction.
Increased power (Voltage/Current): increase the arc rigidity with pulsed mode, which improves penetrations and allows
a good fusion of the usually hard-to-weld wires.
More processes: Soft current, Speed Short Arc (SSA), pulsed and MMA.
More memory: 99 welding laws on DIGI@PULS 320 (W) and 121 welding laws on DIGI@PULS 420 W are proposed,
answering to all applications on the welding market. The remote control box also allows memorization of 10 programs.
More cycles: 2T/ 4T/ Spot weld/Cold Double Pulse current (CDP).
More options: large options offer in order to make easier and safer the welding process.

DIGI@WAVE 280
2006-005
Decisive advantages:
Control of aluminium welding: special equipments, adapted processes (SM : Spray Modal), essential options for demanding
applications (reduction and almost suppression of the porosities and increase of the penetration).
Regulation and numerical controls: total control of alimentation waves forms for an improvement of the processes,
and of the thicknesses, and exact parameters reproduction.
Increased power (Voltage/Current): increase the arc rigidity with pulsed mode, which improves penetrations and allow a good
fusion of the usually hard-to-weld wires.
More processes: Soft current, Pulsed, SSA, SSP, SM, CDP, MIG brazing, MMA, and PR Spray.
More memory: 115 welding laws on DIGI@WAVE 280 and 153 welding laws on DIGI@WAVE 400/500 W are proposed,
answering to all applications on the welding market. The power sources also allow memorization of 100 programs,
selectable from the wire feeder, remote control and DIGI@TORCH E family.
More controls: parameters monitoring, indication of the defects, parameters blocking on several levels, printing, 99 programs,
calibration
More cycles: 2T/ 4T/ Spot weld/Cold Double Pulse current (CDP).
More options: large options offer in order to make easier and safer the welding process.

PROTANE
glasses
2003-081R
The SILVER PROTANE lenses will prove their efficiency in all welding
operations where the arc heat causes discomfort.
The SILVER PROTANE filter reflects 70%
of thermal radiations (causing heat):
less irritation and therefore less tiredness,
more precision and better quality work,
more comfort and better working conditions.
Magnifying glasses
For some precision welding, magnifying the work zone is necessary.
We advise not to use this type of lens continuously without having
consulted an ophtalmologist.
These lenses must be used in conjunction with filtering PROTANE lenses.

Electrostatic filters
Designed and built to extract fumes from welding carbon steel
and oiled sheet metal.
Collection at source guarantees the best fume extraction efficiency.
AZUR wall-mounted electrostatic filters are equipped with heavy-duty
industrial filtering units.
Used as recommended, electrostatic filters have a long lifetime, providing
significant savings.
Electrostatic filter characteristics:
High-efficiency filtering,
Washable filtering units,
Built-in alarm is standard on all models.
When the filter needs cleaning, a sound alarm goes off and about 20 seconds
later the fan stops running. The filter must then be cleaned before the unit can
be returned to service.
Simple, stand alone installation, may be used in addition to existing ventilation
and air treatment equipment.
