requirements:

The civil work is complete and the indoor walls are dry.

The equipment room is large enough for holding all cabinets.

The door of the equipment room is greater than 2.2 m in height
and 1 m in width. The space at both the front and back of the
door is more than 1 m. The room height is not less than 3 m.

The load bearing capacity for the equipment floor is more than
450 kg/m2. The bearing capacity for the non-equipment floor
is at least 300 kg/m2.

The equipment room can be installed with the antistatic active

floor. The floor is installed firmly with the horizontal inaccuracy
per square meter less than 2 mm. The grounding and antistatic
measures of the floor meets the requirements.

Air conditioners are used to keep normal temperature and humidity.

No drain pipe passes through the equipment room. The reserved hidden ducts and holes meet the cabling requirements.
The hole size is 400 mm 400 mm. Ducts and troughs should
be damp-proof.

Lighting wires and power cables are grounded and hidden.

grounding busbar. Therefore, the protection grounding busbar
is a hybrid busbar for both protection grounding and working
grounding.

The soil type has the greatest effect on the grounding resistance. In an area with poor soil condition, it is recommended
to add the resistance reducer (like acrylamide) around the
grounding stub.

Temperature also affects the grounding resistance. In northern

China, it is recommended to embed stubs deep to reduce the
temperature effect. The grounding stub is made of galvanized
material.

Use electricity-conductive cables with cooper jacket to connect

the grounding stub and equipment. Their cross section areas
is not less than 50 mm2 and the distance should be as short

Pressure Plate Assembly Positioning

Overview

Pressure plate assembly positioning is to fix the pressure plate

assembly on the floor in the equipment room. It consists of two
steps: mark and drill.

Mark

According to the reference dimensions, cabinet dimensions and

direction given in the engineering plane design diagram, confirm
the installation position of the cabinet, work out where to fix the
cabinet pressure plate by using a measuring tape, and then draw
them with a ink marker, as shown in Figure 40 and Figure 41.

Whiling drilling holes, pay attention to the following points:

Use a 14 drill bit to drill the holes at the positions where the
expansion bolt holes are marked.

While drilling holes, keep the drill bit vertical to the ground and
tightly hold the drilling machine.

Keep the depth of holes equal to the length of expansion bush

plus cone. Keep the depths of all holes equal.

While drilling, use a blower to remove dust.

If the floor is too hard and smooth to locate the drill bit, you
can cut a dent at the desired position with the sample drill first
to help locating the drill bit.

Expansion Bolt Installation

Before installation, use a cleaner to clean the inside and outside
of all the holes, and then measure the space between holes. For
holes with large deviation, it is necessary to reposition and re-drill
the holes.

Power Cable and Grounding Cable

Installation
Installation
Requirements

Cable installation should meet the following requirements:

The power cables should be laid according to the design drawing.

The cables should be laid on the cabling trough straightly,

closely and tightly, without crosses or unevenness.

The AC and DC cables should be laid separately.

The power and grounding cables should be bound separately

from other cables in the cabinet, or spaced more than 150 mm
out of the cabinet.

The primary power supply should be connected to the cabinet

power supply terminals with correct positive and negative connections.

The mains cables should be turned roundly and smoothly. The

turn radius of the plastic jacket power cables or other soft cables cannot be less than 6 times of the cable outer diameters.

The slotted lug of the power cables should be welded or

cramped securely and tightly.

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION

85

ZXA10 C220 Cabinet Installation Guide

The power cables should be labeled at both ends, indicating

the usage and direction.

All the cable ties should face the same direction and an even
spacing of 60 mm should be kept between them.

After the cables are bounded, cut belt from the root smoothly.

Note:
The internal connections from the power distributor to the cabinet
busbar are complete before delivery. No on-site installation is required.
Installation Steps

Before installation, first turn OFF the three power supply output
switches on the front panel of the power distributor. Then, perform
the following steps:
1. Connect the two-channel -48 V power cords to the corresponding terminals on the power distributor and the DC distributor
cabinet in the equipment room. The -48 V cable is blue and
the -48 V GND cable is black. Inverse connection is forbidden.
2. Lead the protection grounding cable out of the grounding bar
in the equipment room.
3. Use a yellow-green grounding cable to connect the grounding
bar in the equipment room and the terminal PE on the power
distributor.
4. Label the power and grounding cables to indicate the usage
and directions. Use two labels at both ends of each cable. The
labels indicate the local equipment name and opposite equipment name. Paste labels 2 cm to 3 cm away from cable connectors.

Installation Check
After installing the power cables and grounding cables, turn ON the
air switch on the power distribution cabinet in the equipment room.
Use a multimeter to measure the voltage of the power distributor.

Connect the red probe of the multimeter to terminal 1 (silkscreen: -48 V (I)) and the black probe to terminal 4 (silkscreen: -48 V (VRTN)). If the voltage displayed on the multimeter is -48 V, it indicates that the first channel of -48 V power
supply is led in properly.

Connect the red probe to terminal 4 (silk-screen: -48 V

(VRTN)) and the black probe to terminal 1 (silk-screen: -48
V (I)). If the voltage displayed on the multimeter is 48 V, it
indicates that the first channel of -48 V power supply is led in
properly.

Measure the second channel of -48 V power supply in the same

way to check whether it is normal.

Overall Cabinet Cabling

The overall cabinet cabling involves the connections of all cables
except the power cables and grounding cables.
The ZXA10 C220 has two types of cabinets: 19D06H20 and
19D06H22. In each configuration, there is no master or slave
shelf, and no cascading between shelves. Therefore, here takes
an example of a single-shelf cabling to show the whole cabinet
cabling. Figure 76 shows the cabling diagram.

Cabling Principles
This topic includes the following:

Cabling Requirements

Cable Binding Requirements

Cabling Requirements
The cabling requirements are as follows:

The cable specifications, quantity, and types should meet the

construction design and contract requirements.

The cables have no physical damage. The quality certificates,

such as ex-factory record and quality warranty, are provided.

The specifications, quantity, routing direction, and layout position of the cables should comply with the construction design.
The cabling length of each cable depends on the specific position.

The cable laid should have no breakage or connector anywhere

along it.

The subscriber cables should be laid separately from power

cables.

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION

93

ZXA10 C220 Cabinet Installation Guide

Each cable should run straight in the duct and run smoothly at
each corner. If the outer diameter of a cable does not exceed
12 mm, the bending radius should not be less than 60 mm. If
the outer diameter is more than 12 mm, the bending radius
should be at least 10 times the outer diameter.

The cables should be straight and smooth in the ducts, without

exceeding the duct or blocking other inlets/outlets. The cables
should be bound and fixed at the exit parts or turn parts.

When optical fibers, cables, power cables, and grounding cables run in the same duct, they should not overlap each other.
If a cable is too long, coil it in the middle of the cabling rack
and do not put it above any other cable.

When laying the tail fiber, try best to avoid turns. It should
be bound with appropriate force. When laying optical fibers
on the cabling rack, try to avoid bending, and bind them with
proper tightness. When routed along the cabling rack, the optical cables should be separated from other cables. Never mix
optical cables with other cables, or load other cables on optical
fibers. Optical cables should wear protective rubber tube. Coil
and bind redundant fibers on the top/bottom of the cabinet free
from easy access. Tail fiber should be handled carefully since
it might be easily broken.

The bending radius of the fiber connection lines in troughs

should not be smaller than 38 mm40 mm, and the fiber connection lines bound in troughs should be kept straight and free
from twists.

The exposed part of the soft optical fibers in the cabling rack
and trough, as well as the part of the soft optical fibers at turns
where the fibers go out of and go into the cabinet and cabling
rack, should be protected and fixed with proper tightness.

Both ends of a cable should be marked in a concise and clear

manner to facilitate maintenance.

Cable Binding Requirements

The power cables nearby the sockets should be bound in order. Do
not leave the power cables inter-twined. Bind the binding tapes,
as shown in Figure 77. Each column of power cables should be
placed in the same height. Keep the power cables smooth and
vertical to the ground.

94

FIGURE 77 BINDING TAPE

Use cable straps of different specifications for different situations.

Avoid connecting two or more cable straps or binding them together. Otherwise, the binding strength may be reduced. After a
cable strap is bound, cut its excessive part neatly so that the joint
does not have a sharp point.
As shown in Figure 78, the two binding modes marked with
are correct, while those marked with are wrong.
FIGURE 78 BINDING MODES

In a finished cable bundle, the space between two cable straps

should be 3 to 4 times the cable bundle diameter, as shown in
Figure 79.
FIGURE 79 BUNDLED CABLES

At the turn of a cable bundle, bind the cable straps at places

marked with "", as shown in Figure 80, to avoid breaking the
cable cores at the turn because of too much stress.

Inspection Before Power-ON

Overview

When the equipment installation is complete, power ON and debug

the equipment. Before power-ON, check the external and internal
status of the equipment.

Temperature,
Humidity, and
Voltage in the
Equipment Room

The temperature, humidity, and voltage in the equipment room

should meet the following requirements:

Power Cables
and Other Cables
Inside the Cabinet

Other Inspections

Temperature: -5 to +45

Relative humidity: 10%90%

DC voltage: -57 V DC to -38 V DC

AC voltage: 200 V AC240 V AC

Check the power cables and other cables inside the cabinet as
follows:

Whether the connections of the power cables and grounding

cables at each layer are correct and reliable, and whether the
polarity of the power supply is correct.

Whether the plug-in units are inserted in position, and whether

their locations are correct with reliable contact.

Whether jumpers on each card and module are set correctly.

Whether the connection between the client and server is correct.

Other inspections include the following:

The equipment labels should be complete, correct, and clear.

No plug-in unit is missing.

All power switches are turned OFF.

The equipment is well grounded and the grounding resistance

meets relevant technical specifications.

No short-circuit exists between power supplies.

Power-ON Process
The power-ON process includes the initial power-ON process and
routine power-ON process.
Initial Power-ON
Process

The initial power-ON process is as follows:

1. Ensure that all the switches are in the OFF position.
2. Unplug all the cards (partially seated).
3. Use a multimeter on the rack busbar to measure whether there
is any short-circuit between the power (-48 V) and the ground
(GND, GNDP, -48VGND). Ensure that GND, GNDP and -48VGND
have been shorted.
4. In case of zero load, use a multimeter to check the external
power input end of the cabinet and measure whether the voltage of the primary power supply is within the allowed voltage
range (-57 V to -38 V).

Confidential and Proprietary Information of ZTE CORPORATION

105

ZXA10 C220 Cabinet Installation Guide

5. Switch ON the power distributor. Use a multimeter to check

whether there is any -48 V power supply in the shelves and
whether the voltage is within the allowed voltage range (-57V
to -38 V). In addition, check whether the indicators on the
power distributor panel are normal. Generally, the power indicator is ON and the over-voltage and under-voltage indicators
are OFF. If any exception is found, immediately shut OFF the
power supply and check it. Do not power ON the cabinet until
the fault is removed.
6. Switch OFF the power distributor.
7. Insert all the cards, and switch ON the power card. If any
exception is found, immediately shut OFF the power supply
and check it. Do not power ON the cabinet until the fault is
removed.
Routine Power-ON
Process

The routine power-ON process is as follows:

1. Turn ON the -48 V power switch outside the cabinet to supply
power for the cabinet.
2. Switch ON the power distributor at the cabinet top.
If any exception is found, immediately shut OFF the power supply
and check it. Do not power ON the cabinet until the fault is removed.
Because the power supply of the local maintenance console is separated from that on the ZXA10 C220, the power-ON/OFF time on
the local operation and maintenance console has nothing to do
with the power-ON/OFF time on the ZXA10 C220.

Power-OFF Process
The power-OFF process is as follows:
1. Turn OFF the power distributor at the cabinet top.
2. Turn OFF the -48 V power switch outside the cabinet.

Grounding Requirements for

Access Network

The equipment room grounding is introduced by the horizontal

grounding convergence cable. The horizontal grounding convergence cable is reliably connected to the vertical grounding
general convergence cable of the joint grounding body. The
protection grounding cables to be connected to each cabinet
device are nearby led into the horizontal grounding convergence cable.

The protection ground convergence cable of the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) is connected to the nearby general convergence cable for grounding. When the MDF is far from the
general grounding convergence cable, it should be connected
by multiple copper conductors no smaller than 25 mm2 to the
branch convergence cable for access grounding.

The shelves, cabinet doors, and racks of various types of devices should be well joined and connected to protection ground
convergence cables.

5) The grounding cables in the equipment room can be deployed in radiation or plane mode. All the switching devices
in the equipment room need to be connected to the nearby
branch convergence cables for grounding, but grounding
should not be implemented by electrical connections caused by
a fastening bolt with a concrete reinforced bar of the building.

Grounding in a Far-End Equipment
Room
The AC power cables should be buried (the cables should be longer
than 15 m) and led into the far-end equipment room. Since the
AC power distribution panel/box and the DC power cabinet are
in the same equipment room, the distance between Category-B
and Category-C lightning protection units should meet the following decoupling distance requirements: The distance between Category-B and Category-C lightning protection units should be no
shorter than 5 m when the protection grounding bar is laid independently. If the required decoupling distance can not be satisfied
due to some restriction in the equipment room, install additional
decoupling inductance(s) before the Category-C lightning protection unit by 1.5H/m. The Category-B lightning protection unit
connects the cabinet grounding bar through the AC power distribution panel. The Category-C lightning protection unit connects
the cabinet grounding bar through the DC power cabinet. The
Category-D lightning protection unit connects the cabinet grounding bar through the rectifier and the DC power cabinet. Connect

Ground

Refers to the earth with conductivity. It can conduct current effectively and can be taken as reference electrical potential.

Grounding Object

Metal parts used for electrical contact with the

earth to conduct the current to the earth.

Grounding Mesh

An entirety formed by the interconnected grounding objects

Equipotential
plane

When the grounding network discharges the bursty

current, due to the different discharging paths, the
instantaneous potential rise on each node and terminal are much different. When the highest instantaneous current is discharged, all the nodes
and terminals with the same or similar instantaneous potential rise compose an equipotential plane.

Equipotential
Bonding

The grounding cable between two devices should

be connected with a strong and short conductor
enough to control the difference of both instantaneous potential into the designed range while the
maximum current is discharged. This connection
is called equipotential bonding.

Grounding lead

Those lightning protection device, conductors connecting from the bonding bar to the grounding network are called grounding leads. The conductors
connecting form the bonding bar to the grounding
network are called grounding lead-in cables.

Bonding Bar

The metal components used for bonding bar can

be classified into general bonding bar and branch
bonding bar. The branch bonding bar is classified into horizontal branch bonding bar and vertical
branch bonding bar.

General
bar

The final bonding cables, such as grounding, equipotential, and working ground

bonding

Cables that connect each grounding part to the

bonding cables

Vertical grounding branch bonding cables

Vertical grounding conductor used to assign each

horizontal branch bonding bar and general bonding
cable the equipotential, should traverse the whole
building consecutively and each floor connects to
the horizontal branch bonding bar of the vertical
branch bonding bar and finally to form a complete
grounding equipotential body.

Working ground

The circuit part of the DC current being 0 V against

the ground, which composes a part of the DC
power working ground is generally buried underground through grounding bonding bar.

Protection ground

The grounding cables that the surface of the device

connects to the grounding branch bonding bar or
the grounding cables in the 3-phase-five-line AC
power system

Lightning protection ground

Each flashing device set on the buildings connecting to the grounding cable of the grounding network to protect from lightning

Joint grounding

The grounding mode that all working ground,

protection ground of the communication office
(station) devices and lightning-proof ground of
the buildings share the same grounding network
underground.

Central
Equipment Room

Adopts 48 V/60 V DC power supply or 50 Hz AC

220/400 V power supply. The internal AC cables
must be 0.3 m away from the signal cables in
case of mutual coupling. In this cabinet, use the
grounding metal cable support which should be
anti-static and good grounding and lightning-proof
capacity.
All communication equipment rooms , such as the
international telecom office, tandem exchange,
SPC exchange over 10000 lines, toll exchange over
2000 lines, and mobile exchange, are referred to
as the central equipment room.

Remote
equipment room

The indoor communication equipment room of

non-central equipment rooms; for example, local
remote offices with simple protections, or commercial buildings, offices, residences and streets
without any protections.
Small-scale communication offices (stations), like
access network remote equipment rooms, mobile
stations, exchange remote modules, etc. are referred to as the remote equipment room.
