The Chiefs of the Super Bowl

The Kansas city Chiefs are going to win the super bowl this season. There are many reasons
why the Chiefs not only deserve to win, but will win the super bowl. Their defense is the highest rated
defense in the league with an average of 13.8 points a game this season and is currently leading the
NFL in turnovers (www.espn.com). They have the top rated running back in the NFL, Jamaal Charles
(www.espn.com). If this wasn't enough, they have veteran head coach Andy Reid leading them along
with a powerful fan base. Their only competition are the Denver Broncos who are the only other team
with a record of 9-2.
The main point of focus for the Chiefs all year has been their defense. They lead the NFL in
both sacks and turnovers with a total of thirteen fumble recoveries and interceptions and 37 sacks so far
this season. The composition of their starting defense is staggering with six pro bowlers amidst the
eleven starting players (www.nfl.com). Allowing just 13.8 points per game so far this season, it isn't
hard to see why the Chiefs have the highest rated defense in the NFL. Keeping that in mind it's also
easy to see how more than a few of their games this season have been won by the Chief's defense. This
team's pass rush is one of the most effective in the league. As mentioned before they lead the NFL in
sacks with a staggering 37 so far this season. This may not seem like much until you consider that the
next highest defense only has 32 sacks so far. The veteran players in this defense, alongside the talented
rookies have made this defense near immovable. There are few teams in the league that are able to get

the better of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Another reason why the Chiefs have a great chance of going all the way is their star running
back; Jamaal Charles. Jamaal currently leads the NFL in rushing yards and just had his second multitouchdown game of the season against the Chargers. Charles currently has 918 rushing yards and 8
touchdowns on 200 attempts (www.kcchiefs.com). He also has 53 receptions for over 200 yards and 2
touchdowns in the air this season. That is over 1,000 all purpose yards and 10 total touchdowns and the
season isn't even over yet. Now it may seem like the Chief's offense relies heavily on Charles to make
plays, but the star running back doesn't get many touches per game. In fact, Jamaal Charles doesn't
usually get more than 30 touches per game which is surprisingly low for a running back of his caliber.
This fact only serves to make his stats that much more impressive.
The rest of the Chiefs offense isn't just a back up to Charles either, but a real threat on the field
in its own right. Starting quarterback Alex Smith has 2,443 passing yards for 14 touchdowns and only 5
interceptions. He is on pace for a 3,000 passing yard season which is an elite goal for any quarterback.
Their leading receiver, Dwayne Bowe, has 42 receptions for 477 yards and 4 touchdowns
(www.kcchiefs.com). This may not sound like a lot, but considering that 8 receivers have scored on this
Chiefs offense, it's clear that Bowe is the favorite. The other receivers of the Kansas City Chiefs
shouldn't be ignored either. Dexter McCluster has 42 receptions for 417 yards and one touchdown.
Dexter is very good at moving the ball down the field, but is less used when the Chiefs get to the red
zone. Donnie Avery is another good receiver with 34 receptions for 524 yards and 2 touchdowns. Avery
is a powerful deep threat who gets some good end zone work from time to time, but mostly just gets
big passing plays down field for a lot of yards. Anthony Fasano has just 22 receptions for 181 yards,
but for 3 touchdowns. Fasano isn't as good at making big yardage gains like Avery and McCluster, but
he is targeted often in the red zone which makes him a dangerous receiver in the end zone
(www.kcchiefs.com). The two other scoring Chiefs receivers are Anthony Sherman and Junior
Hemingway. These two have combined 209 receiving yards for 3 touchdowns.

No professional football team can be successful if they have a bad coaching staff. Luckily for
the Chiefs they have one of the best head coaches in the NFL, Andy Reid. Coach Reid is a veteran head
coach and has been coaching in professional football for decades. Before coming to Kansas City, Andy
Reid coached the Philadelphia Eagles for many years. In his time at Philadelphia, coach Reid led the
team to many playoff appearances and even a few Super Bowl appearances. Before the Eagles, Reid
coached quarterbacks with the Green Bay Packers (www.google.com). In Green Bay he coached one of
the best quarterbacks of all time, Brett Favre. This is coach Andy Reid's first year as head coach of the
Kansas City Chiefs and already is proving to be an extremely effective leader on and off the field.
There is a factor in football that can be often times overlooked, and that is the effect of the fans.
The Kansas City Chiefs have one the best fan sections and home field advantages in the league. The
Kansas City Chiefs fans are so intense that they are trying to break noise records during the home
games (www.yahoo.com). This makes it much harder on visiting teams and much more energizing for
the Chiefs. Each stadium in the NFL is massive and can hold tens of thousands of fans in an arena like
field. The fans in each stadium make up what is often referred to as the twelfth man. Having a strong
twelfth man at your home stadium can make a huge difference during the game. Kansas City's
twelfth man is rated as second in the NFL only to the Seahawks fans (www.yahoo.com). Opposing
teams are hard pressed to beat the Chiefs on their home turf this season.
The Chiefs biggest competition this season are the Denver Broncos. Having lost to them in
Denver once, the Chiefs have only one opportunity at home to show that they are better than this
electric Denver team. However, despite Peyton Manning leading the best offense in the NFL, they beat
the Chiefs at home. The next meeting between the two teams is in Kansas City which will definitely
lead to a victory for the Chiefs. That being said, beating the Broncos will be a tall order. Peyton
Manning has now thrown for over 4,000 yards for 41 touchdowns and only 9 interceptions
(www.denverbroncos.com). He is having one of the best seasons of any NFL quarterback in a very long
time. The Chiefs will have to work hard to get their revenge on this Denver team.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the obvious team when predicting who will win the Super Bowl this
year. Their defense is the highest rated in the league with a total of 13 turnovers and a whopping 37
sacks, both numbers are the highest in the NFL at this point. Jamaal Charles leads the NFL as a running
back with over 900 yards and 8 touchdowns on just 200 touches. Alex Smith and the Kansas City
receivers have gained almost 2,500 yards in the air and have 15 receiving touchdowns to show for it.
Their head coach, Andy Reid, is a hardened veteran on the field and has coached some of the best
teams in all of football. The Chiefs fans are not only some of the best in the NFL but also some of the
loudest and will make it hard on any opposing team that sets foot onto their field. Denver is the only
thing that can stand up to this Chiefs team, but they won't be able to stand against the best defense in
the league backed by the best running back in the league. The Kansas City Chiefs are the clear favorite
to win the Super Bowl this year.
