INTRODUCTION
This Operators Manual and Parts Catalog explain

only the parts specified for use on the EX1200-6 LC

(with 1 000/1 100 mm shoes), and their operation
and maintenance.

We are continually striving to improve our products.

Therefore, the machine you have purchased may

be different from those described in this Parts
Catalog. However, we issue the revised Parts Catalog as often as is deemed necessary. If you have
any questions about the machine and/or this Parts
Catalog, consult your nearest Hitachi dealer.

In this manual, the front, rear, right-hand, and

left-hand of the machine are used so as to correspond to the boom, engine, operators seat, and
operators seat opposition sides respectively.

See the Hitachi EX1200-6 Excavator Operators

Manual for the general information on operation and

maintenance not described in this manual. Thoroughly read this manual and the Hitachi EX1200-6
Excavator Operators Manual to operate this machine as efficiently as possible.

For the machine parts other than described in this

manual, refer to the EX1200-6 Parts Catalog to be

issued separately. Follow the same instructions as
described in the EX1200-6 Parts Catalog as for ordering the spare parts and/or using this manual.
The parts shown in the circles in the illustrations indicate the parts specified for the LC-type machine
only.

All information, illustrations and specifications in this manual are based on the latest product information available
at the time of publication. The right is reserved to make changes at any time without notice.

SAFETY
RECOGNIZE SAFETY INFORMATION
These are the SAFETY ALERT SYMBOLS.
When you see these symbols on your machine or in
this manual, be alert to the potential for personal injury.

Follow recommended precautions and safe operating

practices.

SA-688

UNDERSTAND SIGNAL WORDS

On machine safety signs, signal words designating

the degree or level of hazard - DANGER, WARNING, or CAUTION - are used with the safety alert
symbol.
DANGER indicates an imminently hazardous
situation which, if not avoided, will result in death
or serious injury.

WARNING indicates a potentially hazardous

situation which, if not avoided, could result in
death or serious injury.

CAUTION indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or
moderate injury.

DANGER or WARNING safety signs are located

near specific hazards. General precautions are
listed on CAUTION safety signs.

Some safety signs do not use any of the designated signal words above after the safety alert
symbol are occasionally used on this machine.

SA-1223

To avoid confusing machine protection with per-

sonal safety messages, a signal word IMPORTANT

indicates a situation which, if not avoided, could result in damage to the machine.

NOTE indicates an additional explanation for an

element of information.

1-1

SAFETY
PRECAUTIONS FOR OPERATION OF
LC-TYPE MACHINE
As for general precautions, refer to the EX1200-6 Hitachi Hydraulic Excavator Operators Manual. This
manual describes the specific precautions required
when operating machines equipped with the LC side
frames and 1000/1100 mm (39/43) wide shoes.
This safety alert symbol is given to important
instructions for safety. Observe instructions
with the safety alert symbol to prevent personal injury and/or death. Before operating
and/or servicing the Hydraulic Excavator,
thoroughly read instructions for safety.

Prohibition of Operating LC-type Machines on

Rough Terrain
The LC-track has been designed to reduce the
ground contact pressure and to increase machine
stability when the machine is operated on soft
and/or swampy terrain. Therefore, if the LC-type
machine is operated on rough terrain (covered with
scattered rocks, pebbles, and/or boulders), greater
impact may be applied to the machine, possibly resulting in damage to the components. Never operate the LC-type machine on such rough terrain.

Prohibition of Using Soft and/or Swampy Terrain

shoes at Rough Terrain

The LC-type machine is equipped with 1000 mm
(39) (Soft terrain) or 1100 mm (43) (swampy terrain) wide shoes. Never operate the LC-type machine on rough terrain (covered with scattered rocks,
pebbles, and/or boulders). Failure to do so may
cause the shoes to bend, and the shoe bolts to become loose. In addition, damage to other track parts
such as the track link and rollers may result. (Refer
to Shoe Types and Applications in the Specification section.)

Prohibition of Using BE and LD Front Attachments

The LC-type machine has been designed to meet

only backhoe applications. If the BE or LD front attachment is used on the LC-type machine, all components designed for the LC-type machine will receive greater loads than designed for. Never attempt to use the BE or LD attachment on the
LC-type machines.

MAINTENANCE
Check Tightening Torque of Bolts and Nuts
--- Every 250 Hours (first time after 50 hours)
Check tightness after first 50 hours then every 250 hours.
Tighten to torque shown if any are loose. Bolts and nuts
should be replaced with the same or higher grade.
IMPORTANT: Check and tighten bolts and nuts using
a torque wrench.

IMPORTANT: Make sure bolt and nut threads are clean

before installing.
Apply lubricant (e. g. white zinc B solved
into spindle oil) to bolts and nuts to stabilize friction coefficient of them.
NOTE: Tightening torque required is shown in Nxm.
For example, when tightening bolt or nut with a
wrench of 1 m length, turning the end of it with
a force of 120 Nxm , the torque produced will
be:
1 m 120 N = 120 Nxm
To produce the same torque with a wrench of
250 mm):
0.25 m

N = 120 Nxm

Necessary force will be:

120 Nxm 0.25 m = 480 N
