Xcelsius Dashboard using Live Office Connections

The main steps for creating a dashboard with live office connectivity in
businessobjects is
Creating Simple OLAP universe
Creating a WebI report.
Inserting the WebI report into excel using live office.
Creating a Xcelsius dashboard with live office connection.

Assuming that every one is familiar with creation of universes and webi reports in
businessobjects the following slides covers the topics of inserting webi reports using
live office and creating the dashboard with live office connections.

Logging on to BusinessObjects Enterprise


Click Start > Programs > Microsoft Office, and select Microsoft Excel to launch the
application.
Click LiveOffice, click Options, the "Options" dialog box appears.
Select the Enterprise tab, enter your BusinessObjects Enterprise logon credentials in the
following fields:
User name
Password

Verify the information in the Web Service URL and System fields to ensure that the
application is pointing to the correct Central Management System (CMS).
Web services URL: http://<businessobjects server>:8080/dswsbobje/services/session
Select an authentication method from the drop-down list, click Log On and then click OK.

Launch the Live Office Insert Wizard


Open a Microsoft Office document.
Log on to BusinessObjects Enterprise.
Select Insert > Web Intelligence Reports.

Select the webi report from the list of reports available in InfoView.

Select report part or field to be added to the office document.

Name the live office object and click finish.

Live office object is inserted.

Now Refresh the object.

Set the prompt values while refreshing.

Choose the properties of the live office object.

Select Prompt Values option and bind the prompts to a cell in the excel.

Next save and exit the excel.

Creating the dashboard


Open New Xcelsius file and import the excel with live office connection.

Excel data sheet is imported.

Bind the components to the values in the data sheet.

Select Data > Connections > Live Office Connections.

All live office connections are displayed. Set the session URL to the businessobjects server.
Select a range for the data.

Set the refresh options in the usage tab.

Now preview the dashboard. It prompts for system, username, password and authentication.

In the below screenshot, 1 is selected in chart1 and chart2 displays the effective purchase
order data for group 1.

Here when INPO is selected in chart1, then data is refreshed by passing this value as the
prompt and chart2 displays the data for group INPO.

Export the dashboard to SAP BusinessObjects Platform.

Select the destination folder.

The dashboard can be opened in BusinessObjects InfoView.
