Product Information
Introduction
Service Information S225-11-3 provides supplemental information and instructions regarding the use of the CL-6 series
voltage regulator control Cooper Control Interface (CCI)
software with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system.
The CCI software interface is a customer interface developed
upon the VTSTM platform.
These instructions apply to all CL-6 series voltage regulator controls that the CCI software has the ability to connect
to and are to be used in conjunction with the programming
instructions for your CL-6A and/or CL-6B control:

Read This Manual First
Read and understand the contents of this manual and follow
all locally approved procedures and safety practices before
installing or operating this equipment.
Additional Information
These instructions cannot cover all details or variations in the
equipment, procedures, or process described, nor provide
directions for meeting every possible contingency during installation, operation, or maintenance. When additional information is
desired to satisfy a problem not covered sufficiently for the users
purpose, contact your Cooper Power Systems representative.

General Overview
The CCI interface software may not start or operate properly
on some Windows 7 operating systems:

The user interface may not display properly.

An error message may appear stating there is an error in the

CPS DNP Layer and prompt the user to close the program.

Determine System Type

Methods to resolve this situations are primarily dependent
upon the system type: 32-bit or 64-bit.
If the CCI interface software does not start or operate properly on your Windows 7 operating systems, determine your
system type before proceeding further:
1. Open a Windows Explorer browser and navigate to the
location of the VTS.exe file.
2. Left-click on Start in the lower-left corner of your screen.
3. Right-click on Computer.
4. Select Properties.
5. Under System a System type: field will identify if your
computer is a 64-bit or 32-bit system-type.

Method A
Change VTS Compatibility Mode
Property to Windows XP
Method A (Primary): 32-bit System
Method B (Secondary): 64-bit System
These instructions primarily apply to computers running the
CCI interface software on a Windows 7 operating system
with a 32-bit system-type.
If your computer has a 64-bit system-type, refer to Method
B, before attempting Method A.
Note: If Method B, which includes the primary instructions for computers running the CCI interface software on a Windows 7
operating system with a 64-bit system-type, does not resolve
the CCI software start and operating issues, Method A is
then recommended as a secondary alternative.

On some Windows 7 operating systems the CCI interface

software may not start or operate properly. This may cause
an error message stating there is an error in the CPS DNP
Layer and prompt the user to close the program.
If this issue occurs when launching the CCI interface software
for the CL-6 voltage regulator control it is recommended the
compatibility mode property of the VTS.exe file be changed.
Follow these instructions to change the compatibility mode
property of the VTS.exe file in the Windows 7 operating system, so that it runs in compatibility mode for the Windows
XP operating system.
1. Open a Windows Explorer browser and navigate to the
location of the VTS.exe file.
The default location is: C:\CL6\Software\source\VTS.

2. Right-click on the VTS.exe file and select Properties

from the resulting drop-down menu.
3. Select the Compatibility tab in the Properties window.
4. In the Compatibility mode section proceed as follows:
A. Select Windows XP (Service Pack 3) from the
drop-down list.
B. Check the Run this program in compatibility
mode for checkbox.
C. Click the Apply button.
D. Click on the OK button.
5. Launch the CCI interface software. Refer to Service
Information S225-11-2 CL-6 Series MicroprocessorBased Regulator Control Cooper Control Interface 4.0
Users Guide for additional information.
If the error message stating there is an error in the CPS
DNP Layer appears and prompts the user to close the program, refer to Method B section in this manual for a secondary procedure.
If neither method resolves the issue, contact your Cooper
Power Systems representative.

Method B
Install XP Mode
Method B (Primary): 64-bit System
Method A (Secondary): 32-bit System
These instructions primarily apply to computers running the
CCI interface software on a Windows 7 operating system
with a 64-bit system-type.
If your computer has a 32-bit system-type, refer to Method
A, before attempting Method B.
Note: If Method A, which includes the primary instructions for computers running the CCI interface software on a Windows 7
operating system with a 32-bit system-type, does not resolve
the CCI software start and operating issues, Method B is
then recommended as a secondary alternative.

On some Windows 7 operating systems the CCI interface

software may not start or operate properly. This may cause
the following to occur:

The user interface may not display properly.

An error message may appear stating there is an error in the

CPS DNP Layer and prompt the user to close the program.

If either of these issues occur when launching the CCI interface software for the CL-6 voltage regulator control it is recommended to install XP Mode.
Follow these instructions to install XP Mode, configure it,
install the CCI software (VTS) on the XP virtual machine, and
launch the software.
Note: Administrator privileges are required to install XP Mode. Each
user of the CCI software on a specific computer are required
to complete steps 2 through 8 if a separate log-in is required.

1. Install XP mode for the Windows 7 operating system.

If either of the following occur, change the VTS compatibility
mode properties to Windows XP:

The user interface may not display properly.

An error message may appear stating there is an error in the

CPS DNP Layer and prompt the user to close the program.

Refer to Method A section in this manual for a secondary

procedure.
If neither method resolves the issue, contact your Cooper
