Introduction to T-adapters for DEUTSCH connectors

It has been determined to adopt the DEUTSCH DT and HD30 connectors to all models, in place
of currently used electric connectors such as X and SWP connectors. These new connectors are
superior to conventional ones in reliability, proof capabilities and electrical properties. They
permits easy repair of harnesses including replacement of connectors and pins. These new
connectors will be successively adopted into future models going to enter the market including
WA 1200-3. The following introduces the T-adapters to diagnose these connectors:

1. KIT PARTS NUMBER OF T-ADAPTERS

Three types of kit numbers have been set according to the intended use.

1) Kit applicable to DT connectors

Part number: 799-601-9200
This kit consists of 13 adapters, and is applicable
to all DT connectors. These connectors have 2 to
12 ways. In addition to the X and SWP conventionally used for sensors and intermediate connectors, this kit covers the greater part of trouble diagnosis, and is essential. This kit number has
been set so that the products will be stored at all
service stations. The conventional box (799-6012600) can be used directly; therefore, the box is
not included.
2) Kit applicable to HD30 connectors
Part number: 799-601-9100
This kit consists of 9 adapters and boxes and is
applicable to all HD30 connectors. HD30 connectors are used as intermediate connectors for harness. Since the harness reliability has been improved, its frequency of use is expected to have
been reduced. So this kit number has been set so
that the products will be stored at main service
stations.
3) Kit applicable to all DEUTSCH connectors
Part number: 799-601-9000
This kit consists of 22 adapters and boxes and is
applicable to all DEUTSCH connectors.

3. CAUTIONS FOR HANDLING

The T-adapters for DEUTSCH connectors are handled basically in the same way as the conventional adapters, and some cautions must be observed.
1) Some terminal numbers of the HD30 connectors are
given in alphabets such as A, B, C and D. So a
plate designed specifically for this purpose is made
available (Part number: 799-601-9310). This plate is
mounted on the box when used.
Notes:
1. The plate is also applicable to the currently used box
(799-601-2600).
2. The DT 3-ways connector has the terminal numbers
indicated also in A, B and C . If you replace 1, 2 and
3 of the box by A, B and C for use, then you need not
use a plate (799-601-9310).

2) The DT 8-ways and 12-ways connectors each are

available in four types; gray, black, green and brown.
Numbers are not set for these connectors in order to
avoid operation errors. They cannot be connected
even if the number of stations is the same. Therefore, use the connector of the same color for the Tadapters.

3) Some of the connectors for the adapter (799-6019280) have terminal number o (not normally used
since it may be mistaken for zero). This is set at
the lower right-hand corner of the plate.

4) Connect the adapter (799-601-9290) to the 31-ways

connector. Since the box is used only up to 24-ways
terminal (799-601-9320), use two boxes including
the conventional box (799-601-2600).
In this case, take the following step:
 For terminals 1 to 24, connect the connectors for
adapters a and b to the connectors of the box
(799-601-9320) for use.

For terminals 25 to 31, connect the connector

of the conventional box to the connector of
adapter c, and cover the plate (799-6019310) over the box for use.

5) Since the T-adapters for the HD30 connector is

connected with the connector of the machine,
four types of connectors are connected to one
adapter. This is because the connector housing
is available in two types; male and female. A pin
or socket can be mounted on each of them;
therefore, four types of connectors are required.

4. OVERVIEW OF DEUTSCH CONNECTOR

The DEUTSCH connector is a generic name for connectors made by DEUTSCH Co., Ltd.
Cummins including CAT are adopting this product. This connector is frequently used in the
construction machines produced overseas.

4-1 Features of new connectors

1) All connectors are designed in a waterproof structure.
2) A common terminal can be shared between the DT
and HD30 connectors.
3) Terminal durability has been improved.
 The terminal is nickel-plated. This has improved
durability when the connector is connected or disconnected.
 The contact portion of the terminal is finished to a
high precision. No contact failure occurs.

4-2 Basic performance

Especially waterproof capabilities have been improved,
and reliability has increased.
Working temperature: 55 to 125C
(Connector X has 50 to 120C).
Waterproof capabilities:
Water does not enter when it is put one meter below
water surface for four hours. No water enters even if
water with a pressure of 8 to 10 MPa is sprayed on the
connector from a position 100 mm away.

4-3 Type and structure of connectors

4-3-1 DT series connectors
DT series includes DT2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12-ways, and DTM 2-ways connectors. In addition, we
have one-way DTHD connectors available, but they do not require a T-adapter; so they are not
set.

4-3-2 HD30 connector

We have two sizes of connectors (shell size: 18 and 24), and connectors with 9 different types
of pin arrangements. This connector can be mounted on either the pin and socket terminal on
the housing. (The part number of the housing is different according to whether it is mounted on
the pin or socket terminal).
