Biomedical research in the field of aging related macular degeneration (AMD),


diabetic retinopathy and prematurity of retinopathy

• Led a NIH funded project to study vascular endothelium growth factors (VEGFs) in the
mediation of choroidal endothelial cells (CECs) transmigration in Neovascular Age-
related macular Degeneration using human eye samples;
• Developed the therapeutic targets for preventing and curing aging related macular
degeneration (AMD);

• Conducted mouse laser injury choroid neovascularization (CNV) model

• Tested the effect of an inhibitor of CCR3 in CECs migration (a project collaborating with
Biotech company)

• Led a project to identify the role of liver x receptors (LXRs) in the regulation of
uncoupling protein-1 dependent energy expenditure (thermogenesis) in rodents;
• Designed, executed and provided valuable in vitro and in vivo data to identify the
molecular mechanism of LXRα in the suppression of energy expenditure;
• Contributed to human adipcotyes investigative team: designed and developed assays to
detect mitochondrial mass, oxygen consumption and lipolysis assay;
• Conducted gene expression assay and reporter gene activity assay using real time PCR,
gene transfection and ELISA;
• Performed Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay to analyze transcriptional factors DNA
binding activity;
• Conducted glucose tolerance test (GTT) and insulin tolerance test (ITT) in mice
