21
Research Degree Program

PROGRAM THAT BLENDS ADVANCED MANAGEMENT KNOWLEDGE

Master of Philosophy
(MPhil) in Management
A program that blends advanced management knowledge and research skills
Management knowledge and its
application to address opportunities
and challenges facing our
organizations might as well determine
our competitiveness in the present
globalized market. Management
research builds and enhances
knowledge capital that enriches
the practice and profession of
management making it possible for
individuals and organizations to deliver
the results. This is how management

has contributed to the development

of organizations and societies in the
developed world.
Research as a critical input for
knowledge generation and application
is not a widely practiced function in our
society. This is more so in management.
Intuition more than empirically validated
knowledge often informs management
decisions and practices. Similarly,
academic side of management is also

not nourished and enriched by rigorous

research, developing and disseminating
valid knowledge robustly applicable to
our situations and productively able
to show and suggest better ways of
managing in our context.
The KUSOM MPhil in Management, a
research-based Master degree program,
is an intensive full time study program
spread over five terms of 14 weeks each.

Management Research

Management
Research
Research is a core component of any
business school worth its name. In tandem
with teaching and consulting programs,
research program defines the scope and
determines the quality of the operation
of a business school. Business schools
within the university system anywhere
in the world are as much active and
recognized for management research as
for management teaching and consulting.
Research keeps business schools and
their faculties at the forefront of the
management knowledge and establishes
their credibility in the business and

academic world while supporting them

in enhancing the quality of management
education. Research generates knowledge
base that ultimately helps business and
managers in improving their practices
through its dissemination by educational
and consulting processes.
Being part of a university system which
has an avowed goal of being a teachingcum-research university, KUSOM is now
endeavoring to promote serious academic
research for advancement of knowledge in
management.

We believe that education must be personally meaningful, professionally

Self-Discover Management
and Your Future at and
with KUSOM
At KUSOM, education is not delivered; it is discovered
by each learner for the benefit of us all. We believe
that education must be personally meaningful,
professionally rewarding, socially contributing, and
intellectually stimulating. For last nineteen years,
KUSOM in a very humble way has been creating and
making available to its community of learners an
educational environment and experience for them to
aspire for and achieve these purposes.
Education takes place at KUSOM the way it ought to
and for the reasons it must. It is the process of selfdiscovery, active involvement, and purposeful passion
for learning that defines our educational approach.
And learners pursue education at KUSOM for being
better able to lead self and others for enrichment of
life and its experience. We at KUSOM are proud of this
tradition as much as we are thrilled by the potential of
future that we have defined for ourselves, i.e. to be one
of the top 20 business schools in the South Asia while
continuing to be the leader management development
institute in the country.
I welcome you to be part of and carry forward this
tradition of self-discovering management and future at and with KUSOM.
