STAGES OF THE LESSON ACTIVITIES:

Warm up:
Using a topic web, T. asks SS to brainstorm four types of the Media and the words
related to them. T. announces the title of the lesson TV and radio and writes it on the
blackboard.
Aims: -to relax the classroom atmosphere;
-to mark the absentees;
-to check homework if necessary;
-to revise the vocabulary related to the Media;
-to announce the title of the lesson.
Techniques: question-answer; discussion; explanations; brainstorming;

Procedure: - greeting; marking the absentees; checking the homework, if necessary;
-T draw a circle on the blackboard, asks students: What types of the Media do
you know and use? and writes in the circle: Types of the Media eliciting from the
students words related to the sub-headings;
-T announces the title of the lesson and writes it on the blackboard;

Activity 1: Lead- in:


Aims: - to introduce the Ss. into the atmosphere of the lesson;
- to raise the Ss interest in the topic of the lesson;
- to motivate Ss. to interact and exchange ideas and information;
-to make predictions about what the characters from the tape are talking about;
Techniques: question-answer; discussion; matching; eliciting; explanations;
personalization;

Procedure: T announces SS that they are going to hear six people talking on the recording .
T asks SS to make predictions about the topic of their discussion, connecting

it with the title of the lesson and about the vocabulary they may hear, by showing them
some photos.

Activity 2: Pre-listening: Introducing the new grammatical structures


(Presentation);
Aims: -to check the SS listening comprehension- recognizing specific vocabulary;
-to give explanations;
-to introduce the grammar structures would rather/prefer to used to express
preferences;
Techniques: listening; discovery techniques; question-answer; discussion; self-correction;
peer-to-peer correction;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss; I-W;
Time: 5;
Procedure: -T asks SS to listen to the recording and fill in the words that are missing from
the sentences they have on their worksheet;
-T elicits that the two expressions are interchangeable and highlights the
interrogative form and the use of to after would prefer but not after would
rather;

Activity 3: Listening:
Aims: -to listen in order to confirm expectations;
-to check the SS listening comprehension;
-to listen in order to extract specific information;
Techniques: listening; question-answer; elicitation; discussion; self-correction; peer-to-peer
correction;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss; I-W; P-W;
Time: 10;
Procedure: -T provides SS with all the questions they have to answer based on what they
will hear.
SS listen to the recording twice in order to perform the task the teacher has set.
SS change their worksheets with their desk mate and check their answers;
They add a happy face if they are satisfied with their result.

Activity 4-Practice:
Aims: -to use the new grammatical structures would rather and would prefer to in
correct sentences;
-to have fun while communicating using the new grammatical structures;
Techniques: monitoring, directing comprehension task; question-answers;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss; SS-T; I-W; P-W;
Time: 15;
Procedure: T asks the ss to solve the exercise 2 b on page 78.
SS also receive prompts and they have to make a short funny dialogue asking and
answering about their preferences.
Activity 5: Introducing the new grammatical structures (Presentation) and practice;
Aims: - to introduce the use of so and neither with the present tense simple when
talking about agreement;
-to revise the meaning of the new grammatical structures and use them in correct
sentences;
Techniques: monitoring, directing comprehension task; question-answers;
Interaction: T-Ss; Ss-Ss; SS-T; G-W;
Time: 10;
Procedure: T asks SS to solve the exercise they have on their worksheets.
SS have to complete the sentences writing a report of similarities from their
questionnaire.

Homework and evaluation:


T gives homework exercise 1 page 93, explains how to solve it, gives thanks to all
the SS, mentions the names of SS who performed well maybe giving them high grades as
well.
