- Practicing Present Tense Simple and acquainting with Present
Continuous
Type of lesson: acquiring new information;
Skills: Speaking, Listening and Vocabulary
Lesson Aims: 1. to introduce vocabulary related to the topic;
2. to identify the new words filling in gap words;
3. to connect the objects with the sentences checking reading
comprehension;
4. to use Present Simple and Continuous in simple statements;
5. to transcribe given examples justifying the chosen form of the verbs;
Didactic Strategies:
a. methods and procedures: conversation, explanation, dialogues, describing things;
b. materials: textbook, pictures, activity lists, handouts, CD player.
Organization: class work, group work, individual work.
PROCEDURE
Activity 1
Interaction: T - S; S -T;
Timing: 5
Warm up activity How do you feel today?
T. shows a few cards to the students, with different types of feelings (sad,
happy, tired);
Ss come one by one and choose a card expressing the way they feel I feel
sad / happy today.
Activity 2
Interaction: T - S; S - T
Timing: 10
Aim 1: to introduce vocabulary related to the topic;
Aim 2: to identify the new words filling in gap words;
Aim 3: to connect the objects with the sentences checking reading comprehension;
T. shows a few pictures to the students, with different types of vehicles asking
the Ss to name some of them (car, bike, bus) and say where these can often be
seen;
T. announces the title of the lesson: In the Street
Ss identify the new words filling in gap words and matching vehicles with the
given sentences on the handouts.
Activity 4
Interaction: T - S; S - T;
Timing: 15
Aim 4: to use Present Simple and Continuous in simple statements;
Inductive example
T. asks the Ss to stand up saying: I am standing up. Are you standing up?
T. asks the Ss to look at them and say: We are standing up.
T. mimics some actions which are happening at the time of speaking, saying:
- I am sitting down. / Sit down, please. / You are sitting down now.
- I am reading a book. / Read this book, please. / You are reading a
book now.
- I am looking out the window. / Look out the window, please. / You
are looking out the window now.
Focused Practice
T. writes cue words on the board, from which Ss must form the proper
Present Continuous conjugation.
