The economy of a country is related to the physical

characteristics of any region.

These regions are linked to the way humans take advantage

of the resources.

Agricultural regions

Agriculture means: the art and science of cultivating the soil, growing

crops and raising livestock. It includes the preparation of plant and animal
products for people to use and their distribution to markets (NatGeo,
2015).

There are different types:

population intake or consumption (like China:cultivates sugarcanes,

potatoes, sorghum, wheat and rice for its population)

merchandising (South of Europe and North and South of Africa

cultivate fruits, cereals potatoes.)

Agricultural regions

In Mexico, the major agricultural production

comes from cereals. (45% of the Mexican

regions), corn, rice, sorghum, sugarcane and

plants or fruits from which oil could be
extracted: oleaginous.

Main exports: coffee, tomato, cotton, fruits

Livestock regions

livestock: animals being raised for sale and profit.

China: porcine livestock raise (pigs).

Malaysia, Brazil, Mexico: livestock raise for population intake

Germany, France, United States and Spain: livestock for

merchandising

North Pacific- Alaskas coast, Canada, United States. Nourished

by Alaskas cool oceanic current. Fishing is for merchandising

Northwest Atlantic-United States coast and Labrador

Natural resources management

Agriculture is classified in 2 types:

Subsistence agriculture- rudimentary techniques

that depend on weather, soil conditions and water

availability.

Commercial agriculture-main goal: fulfil local, national

and international market demands. Technology is
mainly used to obtain high quality products.

livestock could be classified:

extensive- herds travel long distances for food.

Depends on weather.

intensive- different techniques and scientific

methods are used to raise one animal specie.
Products are destined to fulfil national and
international markets.

Forestry resources are classified as:

timber- wood is obtained for industrial use.

Especially ebony, mahogany, red cedar, pine and

oak.

nontimber- for medicinal or alimentary purposes.

Leaves, roots, fruits, wax, cortex.

Fishing resources could be classified according to:

freshwater fishing- rivers, lakes, ponds, water dams. Main goal to

fulfil local market. Salmon,trout.

deep sea fishing- performed offshore; boats have refrigerating

systems to store captured species. Mayor volume than freshwater

fishing.

coastal fishing- performed near the shores and the volume is quite
low. Main goal: consumption and local market needs.

commercial fishing- performed in factory ships with sophisticated

netting systems, refrigerating chambers. Main goal: captureprocess-pack-canned product.

Mexico

Mexico has a wide mining variety. Mines are mainly

located in the Sierra Madre Occidental and the
Transverse Volcanic System (volcanic range).

Characterised by the production of 3 metallic

minerals: silver, copper and zinc. These are found in
mines in Sonora, Chihuahua , San Luis Potos and
Durango.

Coahuila is the main coal producer.

Mexico

AS for the energy minerals, 88% of the energy that

is consumed comes from petroleum.

From thermal coal or steel coal, 5.21% of the

electricity consumed in Mexico is produced.

From uranium, nuclear fuel is created taking 2.73%

of the electricity consumed in Mexico. There is a
nuclear power plant located in Laguna Verde,
Veracruz.
