NOW ITS TIME

TO STRIKE
As the talks process breaks down

ince the two successful

strike days earlier this year
Unite has been pushing to
get negotiations going with the
bus operators and Transport for
London over a fair pay structure for
drivers.
There have been some meetings
involving the employers and TfL.
But the bosses refusal to make
even the most limited progress has
brought this phase to an end.
Unite withdrew from a further
meeting planned for 27 April and
Unites regional secretary Peter
Kavanagh has now stated that the
union will be considering our next
course of action.
The union has to call more action
to make the employers listen.
There was always a danger that
suspending strike action would see
the campaign lose momentum.
It was positive that the union
organised drive up pay meetings
in many areas during the last few
months to continue to put its case
to members. But now every Unite
member has to know that the union
is prepared to see this fight through.
The strike action so far showed
the potential power that bus
drivers have in the capital. Strikes
brought the injustice of massive
pay differentials and a two-tier
workforce to the publics notice.
The union has been reasonable.
The employers and TfL have had
months to make their minds up
about entering into a serious process.
Theyve refused to take the chance
they were offered. If they wont listen
to reason then its time for them to
face hard-hitting strikes.

Bradford drivers strike

against job cuts

Bus drivers at First in Bradford struck for

48 hours on Monday and Tuesday.
The decision to strike by 380 staff was
provoked by the transfer of part of a bus
service from Bradford to Halifax, which the
union said cost eight jobs.

Irish drivers fighting

privatisation

Irish busworkers are set to start seven

days of strikes in May, with a 48 hour
strike starting on May Day.
The action is against plans to privatise
10 percent of bus routes operated by
Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann.
Privatisation will mean worse pay and
conditions and will damage the service.

In the general election all the mainstream

parties have the same message more
austerity, more cuts, more scapegoating.
The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition
is standing candidates across Britain
that will reject all this and stand up for
working people.
They deserve our support.
