CURVAS© is an interpret and graphic software of mathematics functions of 1-variable and

is available to Windows© 95/98/XP or superior.

CURVAS analyzes to the function to check if has any error, for example: in case that exist
a wrong numerical value. This process of analysis is called Interpretation. Then, if an user
want graph chart and the mathematics function is free of mistakes, the process is called to
Graph Function.

Besides, can save in a file one or more mathematics functions. Do not need to turn back
to create, keep to save.

CURVAS 2.1 has improvements in the user environment; also, has new benefits to facili-
tate your work: can save the graphic of a function in a BMP file, can save some coordinate
values (these are saved in a text file), can evaluate a determined x value and to obtain its
corresponding f(x) value, can zoom in and zoom out in the graph base window, and finally
can integrate.
CURVAS 2.1: QUICK GUIDE 2

EXPRESSIONS OF MATHEMATICS FUNCTIONS IN CURVAS

The writing of mathematics functions in CURVAS is based in the following model:

Function Name = Mathematics Expression, Intervals X and Y

Function Name is the identify of the mathematical function created by the user.
Mathematics Expression is the expression of the mathematics function.
Intervals X and Y is the X dominion and Y range (at least, CURVAS needs the
definition of dominion).

Besides CURVAS, for example, analyzes and graphs the following mathematics functions:

funcion1=sen ( 3 * x +1) + ln ( atan ( x^2) + 50), {x,-100,100}

fcuadrado = x^2, {x,-10,10},{y,0,70}

However, CURVAS rejects the following functions:

Raiz3=x^(&1/3),{x,1,30},{y,1,7}
Numerical value with unknown sign

CoSenoE=cos(x/5)),{x,-10.34,-2.67}
Lack or excess parenthesis

CURVAS contains the following arithmetic operators and predeterminated functions:

OPERATOR NAME OPERATOR SYMBOL PREDETERMINATED FUNCTION NAME FUNCTION SYMBOL

Power ^ Sine sen(x)
Multiplication * Cosine cos(x)
Division / Tangent tan(x)
Addition + Arc Sine asen(x)
Subtraction - Arc Cosine acos(x)
Arc Tangent atan(x)
Hyperbolic Sine senh(x)
Hyperbolic Cosine cosh(x)
Hyperbolic Tangent tanh(x)
Common Logarithm log(x)
Natural Logarithm ln(x)
Absolute Value abs(x)
Integer Value [x]
Natural Antilogarithm exp(x)

Besides common functions that CURVAS has by defect (trigonometry, absolute value,
exponential and logarithm); in CURVAS also can utilize the created functions by the user.
For example, suppose that the user creates this function:

Fsquare= x^2, {x,-10,10},{y,0,70}

And, if it’s good writing, Fsquare can save in a file. Besides the user, when opens the file,
can create other function that use Fsquare, for example:

Newfunc= fsquare(ln(x+3)), {x,100,200}

THE INTERPRET BASE WINDOW

The interpret base window of CURVAS is compose of:

A FUNCTION PANE (Funcion) on which the user writes the expression that repre-
sent to the mathematics function.

The Buttons:

INTERPRET (Interpretar): verify if the expression of the mathematics function writes by

the user is correct. Therefore, the user can graph it or add it to the Functions List (Listado
de Funciones), in opposite case, CURVAS notifies, to the user, occurred problems in the
Mistakes List (Listado de Errores).

GRAPH (Graficar): open the graph base window. This button activates if the expression
of mathematics function is correct.

CLEAR (Limpiar): clear the function pane.

OPEN FUNCTIONS (Abrir Funciones): open a file of mathematics functions created or

generated by the user. Once open the file, these functions are showed in the Functions
List (Listado de Funciones).

SAVE FUNCTIONS (Guardar Funciones): save in a file the mathematics functions cre-
ated by the user. These functions are showed in the Functions List.

KEYBOARD (Teclado): open the math-syntax keyboard pop-up window. It helps to know
easy way the syntax of the mathematics expression used in CURVAS.

A MISTAKES LIST (Listado de Errores) that only shows mistakes during the inter-
pretation of the mathematics functions.

A FUNCTIONS LIST (Listado de Funciones) that stores the expressions of mathe-

matics functions created by the user. These functions can add or delete of the Functions
List through of the following buttons:

ADD FUNCTION (Adicionar Funcion): add to the Functions List, the mathematics
function in function pane.

DELETE FUNCTION (Eliminar Funcion): delete of the Functions List, the selected
mathematics function. Precaution: If this function also utilizes another functions, these
also are deleted.

THE GRAPH BASE WINDOW

As soon as CURVAS checks, during the process of interpretation, that the expression of
mathematics function is free of mistakes, the user now yes can visualize the graphic rep-
resentation.

Click in the button GRAPH (Graficar) of the interpret base window to open the graph base
window.

CURVAS 2.1: QUICK GUIDE 5

This window is compose of:

HORIZONTAL INCREMENT (Aumento Horizontal): increase horizontally the graphic

representation of mathematics function.

HORIZONTAL REDUCTION (Disminucion Horizontal): reduce horizontally the graphic

representation of mathematics function.

VERTICAL INCREMENT (Aumento Vertical): increase vertically the graphic representa-

tion of mathematics function.

VERTICAL REDUCTION (Disminucion Vertical): reduce vertically the graphic represen-

tation of mathematics function.

BOTH AXIS INCREMENT (Aumento ambos ejes): zoom IN of the graphic representation
of mathematics function.

BOTH AXIS REDUCTION (Disminucion ambos ejes): zoom OUT of the graphic repre-
sentation of mathematics functions.

CHANGE SCALE (Cambio de Escala): open the scale changer pop-up window to change
the scale of the graphic representation. In this window, you can change the minimum and
maximum values of X and Y.

EVALUATE FUNCTION (Evaluar Funcion): open the function evaluation pop-up window
to found a F(X) value from a X value.

SAVE IMAGE (Guardar Imagen): open the image saving pop-up window to save, in a
BMP file, the mathematics function showed in the graph base window.

INTEGRATE (Integrar): open the integration pop-up window to integrate a mathematics

function from a value to another.

EXPORT DATA (Exportar Datos): open the data exportation pop-up window to save, in a
text file, the rectangular coordinates of the mathematics function with respect to a estab-
lished interval by the user.

CURVAS 2.1 is a shareware version, functional completely, no restrictions.
