What is Acupressure
Acupressure is an old Chinese art of healing that is done by fingers. It was based
on the principles of acupuncture. In this, some key healing points are pressed that
stimulate the bodys own curative abilities. This art is about 5000 years old and it is
very effective for stress related problems. You can do it by yourself. There are no
side effects of this treatment as this therapy does not need any medicine. The main
equipment involved in this therapy is our own hands. It is similar to Acupuncture,
but different in some ways. Acupuncture needs needle but in acupressure some
specific points are pressed in gentle to firm ways. As these points are pressed they

Massage technique
Different types of massages are done in Acupressure. With the variety in rhythm, pressure and tehnique, different methods of acupressure are done.
Firm pressure is the fundamental step of this technique. Practitioner needs to use the side of the hand, palms, thumbs, fingers, or knuckles to
apply steady, and stationary pressure.
Then pressure has to be gradual and practitioner has to stop moving hands for a moment. This way recipeint starts getting relaxation on the
particular area or get relief from the pain as it calms down and soothes those areas. Only 4 to 5 seconds of pressure is enough for stimulting any
area.
In order to squeeze the large muscle group, practitioner needs to give pressure in slow motion by using the fingers, thumbs and heels of the
hands.To make muscles softer and more pliable, practioner needs to use the whole body weight of the upper body in that muscle group. This
particular motion helps to relieve stiffness and tension of the shoulder and neck. It is helpful in treating spasms in the calf muscles and
constipation.
Rapid rubbing can create friction, which stimulates the lymph and blood. Rubbing lightly can relieve swelling,chilling, and numbness by increasing
circulation. It is also helpful in toning the skin and benefitting the nerves.
Quick tapping of fingertips can stimulate the muscles of tender and unprotected area, i.e. our skin. Using loose fist is helpful for larger areas of our
body like back and buttocks.

prominent crease of the upper wrist, in line with the

the hand, at the middle part of the large bone on
your finger
extreme end portion of the outer crease of the
elbow, find the point after bending arm tightly
(opening arm and relaxing before the stimulation is
important)
just under the base of the skull in two small
muscular grooves at the back of the neck
on top of the shoulder, 2"-3" from the side of the
neck
near the "ball-joint" of the hips in the depression
formed by squeezing the buttocks (relax before
stimulating)
at the back side of the knee, and at the middle of
the crease between the two ligaments
in the valley or hollow at the back side of the crown
of the outer ankle
