THE ORGANIZATIONS CULTURE:

The Manager Symbolic View


The symbolic view of management can be defined as:
The view that much of an organizations success or failure is due to external forces outside
managers control.
Mobilinks Perspective:
Mobilink follows the symbolic view of management because the managers believe that apart
from managers actions, there are some external factors as well that are responsible for the
companys failure or success.

Culture:
The organizational culture can be defined as:
The shared values, principles, traditions and ways of doing things that influence the way
organizational members act.

Team-Oriented:

Degree to which work is organized around teams


rather than individuals.
Mobilinks Perspective:
Mobilink strongly believes in the team orientation. The
management along with the employees work together
and maintain a very friendly and professional
relationship simultaneously.

Stability:

Degree to which organizational decisions and actions


emphasize maintaining the status que

Mobilinks management deeply understand that the degree to which it is working must be
maintained well resulting in the stability of the organization.

Its management is currently thinking to focus on the present facts and figures and trying not to
expand their business for it may or may not affect the companys stability.
Attention to Details:
Degree to which employees are expected to exhibit precision, analysis, and attention to detail.
Mobilinks Perspective:
Mobilink employees are very dedicated towards their work. They know very well what they
working for and how the work should be done. Its culture has been maintained in such a way that
it strongly grabs the attention of employees.
It has a very clean working environment. Ms. Saira Akram, the Assistant Manager Human
Resource Operations and Employee Relations Team, said that the environment of Mobilink is
very much safe and clean and is recommended for the female employees. This shows that
Mobilinks culture promotes and encourages the female workers.

Innovation and Risk taking:


Degree to which employees are encouraged to be innovative and to take risks
Mobilinks Perspective:
Mobilink promote the innovations and risk taking. They have a web portal on which any of the
employees can share his/her new ideas. These ideas are actively taken up and shared. They are
even applied if they are applicable.

Rituals:
Repeated, taken-for-granted behaviors that may have both positive and negative effects for
organizations.

Mobilink has the culture of Training by Employees to Employees.


This means that the senior employees train the new comers and fresh entrants.
They teach them about the prevailing culture along with the rules and policies of
the company.
There are different teams formed to look out for each department.

There is an Employee Services Team as well.


This team looks out for helping the employees and usually come out with the best
solution to help resolve the issue effectively.
It also has Employee Engagement Initiative.
Mobilink arranges different activities for employees board web portal and
training. They maintain a special separate hall for training.

Status Symbol:
The layout of an organizations facilities, how employees dress, the types of automobiles
provided to top executives, and the availability of corporate aircraft are the examples of status
symbol. Others include the size of offices, the elegance of furnishings, executive perks,
employee fitness center or on-site dinner facilities, and reserved parking spaces for certain
employees.
Mobilinks Perspective:

The culture of Mobilink includes the different types of automobiles provided to the
employees varying from top executives to the lower management.
The organization arranges annual dinners for the employees. Sometimes, occasional
dinners are also arranged upon the completion or success of project.
It also provides five-star accommodation to its employees when they are on official tour.
Mobilink though doesnt have its own aircraft, but it provides either first-class seats or
business-class seats to its employees.
There is proper dress-code prescribed for the employees. The men are supposed to wear
pants and dress shirt along with tie. There are no restrictions for female employees about
their dressings.
All the employees are strictly bound to wear their official identity card; male as well as
female.

EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT
External factors can be defined as:
Those factors and forces outside the organization that affect the organizations
performance.
There are two components of external factors:
Specific environment
General environment

Specific Environment:
Those external forces that have a direct impact on managers decisions and actions are directly
relevant to the achievements of the organizations goals.
Mobilinks Perspective:
The main forces that make up a specific environment are as follows:
Customers:
Total Customer Satisfaction
Customers are at the heart of our success. They have placed their trust and confidence in
us. In return, we strive to anticipate their needs and deliver service, quality and value
beyond their expectations.

With these values, Mobilink considers its customers very valuable and strongly believes
that satisfying its customers means the ultimate success of company.
Suppliers:
The suppliers of the towers which are used to transmit signals are imported from abroad
Competitors:
Although Mobilink is Pakistans leading cellular and Blackberry service provider, it still
has an increasing number of competitors. Such as Zong, Telenor, Waird.
Pressure Groups:
With the recent happenings in the country and the political instability, Mobilink, though
indirectly, faces an indirect threat from the terrorist organizations. Moreover the Pakistan
Telecommunication (PTA) is the regulatory body for Mobilink, thus acting as pressure
group. Government and Mobilink have a good relationship as per the manger. She added
that conflict arises when both have conflict of interest i.e. when services are turned off.

General Environment:
Broad external factors that may affect the organization
The main forces that make up a general environment are:
Technological Condition:
The Mobilink has been the leading telecom company in Pakistan for the past 18+ years
and this has been because of its fantastic and outclass technology, it is still working on its
technology to provide better services to its customers.
Political Condition:

The political conditions do affect the company. Sometimes, it has adverse affects such as
closing all networks for a day or two sue to some security issues all over the country
resulting in the loss for the company.
Sometimes, good and fair leaders provides the company with beneficial incentives which
proves to be profitable for the company.
Economic Condition:
The economic condition of Pakistan does, obviously, affects the operations of the
company. Political instability and terrorist organizations being one of those factors.
Demographic Condition:
mobilink has been the leading telecom company and it is not bound of any demographical
barriers. It has been providing services for around 18 years and will continue doing that.
Socio-cultural Condition:
As societal values, customs and taste changes, the policies and the management also
changes. Mobilink believes in playing an active role in supporting the community and
social development of Pakistan.
The management of Mobilink since knows that the people of Pakistan has family values,
they hence try to introduce such networks which help all class of people to connect with
their loved ones.
