ENGINEERING ECONOMIC ANALYSIS

Course Description
This course covers methods for economic evaluation of engineering projects. Topics include: time value of
money, equivalence, cost estimation, selection of alternatives, effects of depreciation, taxes and inflation,
replacement analysis, sensitivity analysis, capital budgeting.
Course Objectives
After taking this course, you should:
Thoroughly understand the time value of money
Be able to perform a capital analysis of various investment alternatives
Be prepared for the Engr Econ section of the FE exam

We will use Blackboard. Be certain that you can log in to www.blackboard.louisville.edu.
Email communications
Communications will be sent to your official university email address. It is your responsibility to check your
University mailbox on a regular basis or have your messages forwarded to your preferred account. When
sending an email to the instructor, be sure to put IE370 in the subject.
Academic Integrity Policy

Attendance
Attendance is not required, however, it is your responsibility to obtain all materials, lectures and assignment
presented in class.
Homework Assignments

Homework assignments are to be an individual effort. Homework assignments are due by the
end of class on the date assigned. Late homework will ONLY be accepted BEFORE
homework solutions are posted on Blackboard.

Assignments missed because of serious health issues will be considered on a case-by-case


basis, pending submission of supporting documentation.

Tests

Tests are to be an individual effort. There will be no communicating of any kind (talking,
sharing notes or books, sharing calculators, etc) with anyone else.
If I observe suspicious behavior during a test I will isolate you in the front of the classroom.
If blatant cheating is observed you will be asked to leave the room and will receive a 0 for the
exam.

Grading Policy:
One midterm exam plus one comprehensive final exam will be given.
The lowest homework grade will be dropped at the end of the semester.
