AbouttheProgram
Thecivilengineeringmajorpreparesstudentsinthefundamentalprinciplesnecessarytopracticethisprofessioninanyofits
branches,includingconstructionmanagement,waterresources,structural,transportation,environmental,geotechnical,and
publicfacilitiesengineering.
Civilengineersareactiveintheplanning,design,construction,researchanddevelopment,operation,maintenance,and
rehabilitationoflargeengineeringsystems.Aparticularfocusisthereconstructionofthenationsinfrastructurethrough
solutionsthatminimizethedisruptionofsocialandnaturalenvironments.
Civilengineeringgraduatesaregroundedinthefundamentalprinciplesnecessaryforthepracticeofthisprofessioninanyof
itsmodernbranches,includingconstructionmanagement,waterresourcesengineering,structuralengineering,geotechnical
engineering,transportationengineering,andenvironmentalengineering.
Sevenoftherequiredcoursesinthedisciplineincludeintegrallaboratoriesorfieldprojectsforbotheducationalillustrationand
professionalpracticeexposure.
Carefulselectionoftheelectivesspecifiedinthecurriculumcanleadtoawidevarietyofcareerobjectives.Forinstance,
studentswithaninterestinwaterresourcesengineeringmayelectadvancedcoursesinhydrology,ecology,andchemistry
selectseniorprofessionalelectivesinthegeotechnicalandwaterresourcesareasandchooseappropriatetopicsforsenior
designandseniorseminar.Seniors,withtheapprovalofthedepartmenthead,canelectcertaingraduatecourses.
Aspecialfeatureofthemajorisseniordesign.Agroupofstudentsworkswithafacultyadvisortodevelopasignificantdesign
projectselectedbythegroup.Allcivilengineeringstudentsparticipateinadesignproject.

TheAcceleratedProgramoftheCollegeofEngineeringprovidesopportunitiesforhighlytalentedandstronglymotivated
