Graduate Certificate Programs


Program Overview
If you are a busy professional who would like to enhance
your current business knowledge, the graduate certificate
program at EMUs College of Business is designed for you.
We offer post-bachelors graduate certificates in general
business administration and 13 different areas of
specialization. If you decide to pursue the MBA or another
College of Business Masters degree in the future, you will
find that most of the certificate courses will apply towards
your degree.
Accreditation
The College of Business is professionally accredited by
AACSB, the Association to Advance
Collegiate Schools of Business.
AACSB International is the selective
organization that is considered the
hallmark of excellence for business
programs. Approximately thirty
percent of the business schools in the
United States have this prestigious
distinction. Eastern Michigan University is
regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Faculty
As a graduate student, you will study with many full-time
faculty members in the College of Business who are
dedicated to teaching and who regularly participate in
academic and professional activities. You will have handson learning opportunities with faculty who possess realworld experience and professional credentials. Our faculty
publish in internationally, nationally and regionally
refereed academic and professional journals. They act as
advisors and consultants to numerous area businesses. As
active members of campus life and our regional community
they bring current techniques and up to-date practices in
the field to their instruction. The faculty provides
innovative leadership in curriculum development, team
building and communication.
Facilities
The College of Business is a 122,000 square-foot facility with
wireless technology. It includes classrooms, computer labs,
a graduate student lounge, food services, departmental and
faculty offices. A parking structure for COB students,
faculty and staff is just a short walk across the courtyard.
Evening classes are held from 6:30-9:10 p.m. at the Owen
Building in downtown Ypsilanti. Some classes are offered
online or at EMUs Livonia Center at I-275 and Six Mile.

Graduate Certificate in Business Administration


The general Business Administration graduate certificate
is comprised of six 3-credit hour courses*.
ACC 501 Accounting Principles
DS 501 Intro to Probability & Business Statistics**
ECON 500 Economics: Principles & Institutions
FIN 502 Financial Principles***
MGMT 505 Organizational Theory & Behavior
MKTG 510 Marketing Principles
*If you have previous undergraduate course work that is
equivalent to one or more of the required courses, the
course may be waived. However, no more than 6 credit
hours (two courses) can be waived. A minimum of 12 credit
hours is required to earn this graduate certificate.
**Prerequisite: College level math course
***Prerequisite: ACC 501
Graduate Certificates in Areas of Specialization
These certificates require the completion of 15 credit hours,
excluding any prerequisites (shown in parentheses), and are
made up of five 3-credit hour courses in one of the
following specialization areas:

*Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate
institutions attended. Students must have either a cumulative
undergraduate GPA of 2.7, or 3.0 for the last half of
undergraduate study.

* Applicants with transcripts from international institutions


must have credentials evaluated through Educational
Perspectives (EP). (See www.edperspectives.org/emich)
* International applicants must demonstrate English language
proficiency by submitting official test scores for the
TOEFL/TWE, MELAB or IELTS tests. The minimum TOEFL
score for admission is 213 (computer), 550 (paper), or 79
(Internet); MELAB 77; or IELTS 6.5.
* International students on an F-1 visa must complete the
Financial Statement for International Applicants.
