Abstract
With the increase in the number of privately owned vehicles, the need to
increase the parking lot size to accommodate this rising vehicle density is
recognized. More often, places such as cinema theatres, malls, family
restaurants, etc. face the difficulty of accommodating their customers most of
which arrive by their own private vehicle. To commensurate this unavailability
of off-street parking area, linear programming problem algorithm is employed
to optimize a given parking lot area so as to accommodate maximum number
vehicles in the existing space. For a case study, the street of Panglima Polem in
Banda Aceh is chosen as it is located in the city central of Banda Aceh, thus
experiencing elevated traffic conditions. The maximization study is carried out
under three constrains, firstly, based on the proportion of parking size required
for each type of vehicle, secondly, average parking duration for each type of
vehicle and lastly, combining both of the above conditions. The study has
formulated a well-posed problem for parking slot optimization based on the user
needs, interpreted as parking slot proportional to parking accumulation and
duration.
