The"Armata"UniversalCombatPlatform(Russian:
)isaRussianprototypeofanadvancednext
generationheavymilitarytrackedvehicleplatform.The
"Armata"platformisintendedtobethebasisforamain
battletank,aheavyinfantryfightingvehicle,acombat
engineeringvehicle,anarmouredrecoveryvehicle,a
heavyarmouredpersonnelcarrier,atanksupport
combatvehicleandseveraltypesofselfpropelled
artilleryunderthesamecodenamebasedonthesame
chassis.Itisalsointendedtoserveasthebasisfor
artillery,airdefense,andNBCdefensesystems.[8]The
new"Armata"tankplatformismeanttoreplacethe
olderRussianMBT'sandAPC'sthatarecurrentlyused
bytheRussianmilitary.

Accordingtopreliminaryreports,thenewtank
designatedT14willbelessradicalandambitiousthan
thecanceledObject195orT95,itwillweighless,
SideviewoftheT14MBTwithturretcovered
therefore,becomemoreagileandwillbemore
affordable,comparedtoitsmoreambitious
predecessors.Additionally,theArmata,Kurganets25andBumerangwillbeabletoequipthesame30mm

Thetankwillhaveanunmanned,remotelycontrolledturret.Itwillbedigitallycontrolledbyacrewmember
locatedinaseparatecompartment.Itisbelievedthatthiswouldeventuallyleadtothedevelopmentofa
fullyrobotictank.[22]
VehiclesoftheArmataplatformwillbeequippedwiththeradarandothertechnologiesfoundonthe
SukhoiT50fifthgenerationjetfighter.TheyincludeaKabandradar(26.540GHz)basedonAESA
radar.Thedevicesshouldbereadyby2015.[23]
TheArmatawilluseanewtypeoflightweightarmordesignated44SSVSH,developedbySteelScientific
ResearchInstituteenterprise.Thisarmordoesnotloseitsqualitieswhenusedinextremelylow
temperatures,anindicationofRussia'smilitaryinterestintheArctic.[24]
TheArmatatankwillhavearemoteweaponstationturretandanautomatedcontrolsystem,withthecrew
protectedbyanarmoredcapsule.Itwillhaveanexternallymounted125mmgunwith32roundsof
ammunitioninadditiontotankrounds,anewlaserguidedmissileabletobefiredfromthemaingunwith
atandemKornetD(orbetter)antitankorantilowflyinghelicopterswarheadwitharangeof7,000
