Here are our favorite and highly-recommended Gray Line tours for your pleasure. We have arranged for

Tours run rain or shine, must be paid in full and are refundable up to four hours prior to departure time.
All tours depart from the Gray Line Lighthouse Ticket Office in the French Quarter. Please confirm when making
your reservation if shuttle pickup is available at the hotel for your selected tour. If not, you will need to take the
easy, 10-minute walk to the departure point (approximately 5-1/2 short blocks).

Tour # 1 - Plantation/Swamp Tour:


From Belles to Bayous
Tour Destrehan Plantation, est. in 1787,
the oldest documented French Colonial style
house in the lower Mississippi Valley.
This majestic antebellum plantation home
watches over the banks of the Mississippi River,
only a few minutes upriver from New Orleans.
Costumed docents will intrigue you with
the history of the Destrehan familys sugar
dynasty, historic events that occurred at this site,
and the unique architectural features of the
plantation.
Daily trade demonstrations by costumed
artisans give an insight to long-forgotten skills
that were a vital part of everyday life centuries
ago.
Then its a short ride to the Manchac
Swamp where you will cruise through a
privately-owned wildlife refuge, home to the
legend of Rougarou, the Cajun werewolf.
You might not find the Rougarou, but youll
get up close and personal with some alligators in
an area where time seems to stand still.
You can purchase drinks and snacks at
the swamp. (Cost is not included in tour price).

Tour #2- Paddle and Wheel Combo Tour

After your exciting Super City Tour by motorcoach, board the historic Steamboat
Natchez,the last authentic steamboat on the Mississippi River. This two-hour day cruise takes
you back to a time when cotton was king and life was as slow and graceful as the current on the
Mississippi River.
The Port of New Orleans
Enjoy the Captains narration of the highlights of one of the worlds busiest ports. New Orleans
is the gateway between the oceans of the world and the American Midwest via the Mississippi
River. This vast network provides the nation with steel, coffee, plywood, and manufactured
goods, while also providing a pathway for over half of the country's grain exports.
Steam-Powered Boat...and Music
Tour the Historic Steam Engine Room and learn how steam powers the engines to turn the
Paddlewheel and provide the energy for the delightful tunes of the calliope, a pipe organ with
thirty-two notes. Enjoy a Steam Calliope Concert daily, a sound that you'll quickly come to
associate with the city of New Orleans.
Experience American History
Not only will you have the chance to see the beautiful French Quarter from the river, but you'll
also cruise past the Chalmette Battlefield, where Jean Lafitte and his buccaneers joined forces

Tour # 3 - Gray Line New Orleans City Tour

Travel Through Three Centuries of history, legends and romance as you encounter The
City That Care Forgot!
Absorb the sights & sounds of the world famous French Quarter and historic Jackson
Square, home of the Cabildo and Presbytere Museums.
Visit one of our historic cemeteries, referred to as Cities of the Dead, and learn about
this unique above ground burial system.
Marvel at stories of voodoo and piracy on Bayou St. John, the waterway used by Jean
Lafitte and his band of pirates, as we make our way to City Park, the 5th largest urban park in
America. Here you may visit either the Morning Call Cafe or the Besthoff Sculpture Garden.
Follow the path of the St. Charles Avenue streetcar, the oldest continuously operating
passenger railway system in the world (until service was disrupted by Hurricane Katrina).
See the homes of former Kings & Queens of Mardi Gras, stately mansions and the world-famous,

Tour # 4 - Laura: A Creole Plantation Tour

Travel back in time to Laura Plantation, an operating sugar farm built in 1805, on
what has been called the best history tour in the U.S. You'll have the chance to visit 11 historic
buildings on the National Register, including slave cabins in which the West-African folktales of
Compair Lapin (later known as Brer Rabbit) were recorded over 140 years ago.
This Creole plantation tour is based upon 5,000 pages of documents found in the French
National Archives and upon Lauras memories of the Old Plantation Home, in which she details
250 years of true-life stories of the Creole women, slaves and children who lived and worked
here.
Laura Plantation was awarded the Top Travel Attraction in Louisiana by the Louisiana
Travel Promotion Association in 2007. It was also listed among the top 25 most popular house
museums in the U.S. by the American Academy of Architecture and Design.
On your journey to this historic plantation, you'll also have the opportunity to enjoy a
panoramic view of Lake Pontchartrain as you cross the Bonnet Carre Spillway (the flood outlet
of the Mississippi River).

Marvel at the unbelievable quarter-mile long alley of 28 magnificent Oak trees, each over

Mississippi River.
Your guided tour will reveal the fascinating stories of the home and its history. Perhaps
the most photographed plantation ever, Oak Alley has been the setting for such motion pictures
as Interview with a Vampire, Primary Colors, and the wedding of Bo and Hope from the daytime
soap opera, Days of our Lives.

The homes of former Kings and
Queens of Mardi Gras are located here, as well

well as the house where Jefferson Davis died
in 1889; and Tobys Corner, the oldest house
