Mississippi River.
The Port of New Orleans
Enjoy the Captains narration of the highlights of one of the worlds busiest ports. New Orleans
is the gateway between the oceans of the world and the American Midwest via the Mississippi
River. This vast network provides the nation with steel, coffee, plywood, and manufactured
goods, while also providing a pathway for over half of the country's grain exports.
Steam-Powered Boat...and Music

Paddlewheel and provide the energy for the delightful tunes of the calliope, a pipe organ with
thirty-two notes. Enjoy a Steam Calliope Concert daily, a sound that you'll quickly come to
associate with the city of New Orleans.

buildings on the National Register, including slave cabins in which the West-African folktales of
Compair Lapin (later known as Brer Rabbit) were recorded over 140 years ago.
This Creole plantation tour is based upon 5,000 pages of documents found in the French
National Archives and upon Lauras memories of the Old Plantation Home, in which she details
250 years of true-life stories of the Creole women, slaves and children who lived and worked
here.
Laura Plantation was awarded the Top Travel Attraction in Louisiana by the Louisiana
Travel Promotion Association in 2007. It was also listed among the top 25 most popular house
museums in the U.S. by the American Academy of Architecture and Design.
