Abstract
Tungsteninertgas(TIG)weldingprocessisgenerallyusedtoproducehighqualityweldjointsof9Cr1Mosteel.However,thereislimitationassociatedwiththe
depthofpenetrationachievableinsinglepassautogenouswelding.Specificactivatedfluxhasbeendevelopedinthepresentworktoenhancethedepthof
penetrationupto6mminsinglepassbyATIGwelding.9Cr1MosteelATIGweldjointusingactivatedfluxwasmadeinsinglepassweldingwhilethemultipass
TIGweldjointusingmodified9Cr1Mofillerwirewasmadeinsevenpasses.TheenhancementindepthofpenetrationduringATIGweldingprocessforthissteel
wasattributedtoarcconstriction.ThestrengthpropertiesoftheATIGweldjointwassuperiortothatofthemultipassTIGweldjoint.ThemultipassTIGweldjoint
exhibitedslightlyimprovedimpacttoughnessthantheATIGweldjointinPWHTcondition.Therefore,therewasnodegradationinthemicrostructureand
mechanicalpropertiesoftheweldjointproducedbyATIGweldingprocesscomparedtothatoftheweldjointproducedbyconventionalTIGweldingprocessin
plain9Cr1Mosteel.
