C200H-LK201 and LSS version 3.02.

LSS (Ladder Support Software) is a software package used for writing and
documenting ladder programs for the C200H PLCs. Communication between
LSS and a C200H may be achieved via an RS232 port on the PC running LSS
and the C200H-LK201 host link unit.
Communication problems between C200H-LK201 and LSS.

PROBLEM:

This helpsheet describes how to get RS232 communications with the Host Link protocol going with a C200HLK201. This protocol is used with LSS and many SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) packages.

Cable requirements
The following connections will enable a PC to be connected to the C200H-LK201 RS232 port. Where the type
of connector is specified, this refers to the connector to put on the cable.

The following switch settings will allow LSS to communicate with the LK201 at 9600 baud. It is assumed that
there will be only one LK201 on the C200H backplane.

Going on-line with LSS

From the LSS Setup menu make sure that the PC Interface option is set to HOSTLINK, COM1, 9600 and that
the cable is connected to the 1st serial port on the PC. If you wish to use the 2nd serial port then change COM1
to COM2. Also make sure that the HOST LINK UNIT option is set to 00. If you are familiar with LSS then go online in the normal manner. If you are new to LSS then follow these steps:
1. Display your ladder diagram, ensuring that the Setup menu is not shown.
2. Type [CTRL]O (note that this is the letter O, not the number 0). LSS will display 4 options in the bottom
left of the screen. Press [F1] for PC CON (short for PC connect).
3. After a few seconds comms should be established with the current operating mode of the C200H being
displayed at the top of the screen (RUN, MONITOR or PROGRAM). If comms has not been established
then the error message Communications Error will be displayed at the top left of the screen. If this is the
case then see the section If you have problems below.

If you have problems

If you cannot establish communications as described above then try the following steps:
1. Make sure the cable is wired correctly.
2. Switch the PC off, wait a few seconds then switch it back on. Sometimes the comms ports on PCs can
lock-up and the only way to rectify this is to switch off the PC.
3. From the LSS Setup menu make sure that the PC Interface option is set to HOSTLINK, COM1, 9600 and
that the cable is connected to the 1st serial port on the PC. If you wish to use the 2nd serial port then
change COM1 to COM2. Also make sure that the HOST LINK UNIT option is set to 00.
4. Now go on-line with LSS as described above in Going on-line with LSS
