My teaching philosophy is to help develop students as a whole physically, cognitively, socially and

emotionally. Through planning using the Shape of America standards and state MACF standards I
will provide developmentally appropriate lessons for students to achieve success and growth. I plan
to promote and teach physical skills and knowledge of benefits to promote lifelong physical activity
appreciation and a healthy lifestyle. It is important to advocate this healthy lifestyle and physical
activity at this crucial age when students are developmentally learning many rights and wrongs.
When looking at the purpose of my program I like to emphasis the importance of healthy lifestyle
through nutrition and physical activity with the current national growing problem of youth obesity that
is prevalent within our society. The healthy life style that I promote also helps with the lowering of
cholesterol, blood pressure, reducing musculoskeletal injuries, psychological well-being, raising selfesteem, managing/lowering anxiety, and depression of students. It is important to me as a physical
educator that all students learn and participate by promoting equality within the classroom,
differentiating instruction, and maximizing the amount of opportunities for students to respond. This
is accomplished by having management systems and routines set in place to create an efficient as
well as safe environment for students to learn. Differentiating of instruction allows students who may
be entering the program at varying skill levels and capabilities to all achieve success. I also
recognize as a program that our students at this developmental age are making advancements in
areas such as reading and writing. To help our young students in their advancements we integrate
reading and writing into lessons in a variety of ways which include the lessons objectives, skill cues,
valid assessments aligned with objectives in all three domains that each student is held accountable
through. Through assessments we are able to assess our students knowledge and skill level as well
as my effectiveness as a teacher to make necessary adjustments to benefit our students. I take
great pride in the integration of other subject material to help our students develop as a whole and
assist in the process of preparing the students to be able to achieve excellency on the MCAS testing
which is currently a problem with low pass rates state wide. My job as physical educator do not stop
when our students leave my class in several ways, one being the healthy life-style and the other
being that it has been studied that children who participate in the recommended amount of physical
activity are better learners and have been related to higher standardized test scores.
