Executive Summary

The Project A Study of Training & Development at Nestle India, Pantnagar aims at
understanding and analyzing the effectiveness of training and development programmes at
Nestle India ltd., Pantnagar. The objective of the project is to know the effectiveness of the
training and development programmes and analyze the difference between the theoretical
and the practical aspects related to the training and further analyzing the practices involved
in the Nestle India Ltd.
Training is the process of teaching the new and present employees the basic skills they
need to effectively perform their job. In other words, training refers to the teaching and
learning activities carried on for the primary purpose of helping members of the
organization to acquire and also to apply the required knowledge, skill and attitudes to
perform their jobs effectively. Training also helps in making a new employee known to the
organizations rules, policies, culture, legal compliance related to his job. Training helps a
new employee in doing the job for which he has been selected by the organization so that
he can stand on the organizations standards and expectations.
Training is the most important part of any organization activity as it helps to improve skills
and abilities of the employees so that they can better equipped to perform his present job or
to mould him to be fit for a higher responsibilities . Training is different from Education as
education is the life long process of increasing the general knowledge and understanding of
the people about the total environment and thus it is theoretical in nature.
Development on the other hand covers activities which bring about growth of the

personality and help individual progress.

My Project aims at studying the meaning and the need of training and development along
with the types of training. The main purpose of this project is to identify the effectiveness
of training and development programmes at Nestle India Ltd., Pantnagar. This is done
through a survey of employees who have undergone training within the organization. The
analysis is done through observation of findings. The major finding are that the
employees find the training programmers as effective and useful for development. Nestle
India Pvt. Ltd. is projective towards improvement of employees and development of the
