DEFENCE ADVISOR EXPLAINS THE ROLE OF PAK ARMY IN THE WAR ON TERROR
Last two weeks have been busy with a series of events of which foremost was the visit of Brig.
Asghar, Our Defence advisor to the High Commissioner of Pakistan at the invitation of UWA
International Relations Society (UWAIRS) in collaboration with Pakistanis in Australia.
Earlier that morning, Brig. Asghar was invited for a panel interview at Future Directions
International, which was followed by a meeting with the management committee members of
the Rotary Club of Rockingham.
Following this the Defence Advisor delivered a lecture on the role of Pakistan Army in the war on
terror which was attended by 52 students. David Cann and Rida Ahmed welcomed the guest on
behalf of the UWAIRS.
The lecture was followed by question and answers. Gawadar port, China, Yemen, Hazara and
relationship with Afghanistan were the key issues that the students raised in their questions.
Rose thanked the guest and Pakistanis in Australia at the end of the session followed by Dr.
Zarrin Siddiqui highlighting the need of such forums where there are opportunities for dialogue
to clarify misperceptions.
The day ended with a dinner attended by the members and friends of the Group to discuss the
future collaboration. On behalf of the Group it is also right time to thanks Syed Zulqarnain Gillani
who has been of tremendous help in finalizing the visit with us and for his time and support. The

It is with pleasure that we inform members that the equipment is now on its way to Pakistan and
would be arriving at Karachi anytime from where it will be transported by road to Quetta. Thanks
to all who contributed for this great cause. Our meeting with Beth and Peter was great and we
hope to have more projects initiated in future. We have already been assured of support for
reading glasses collection.
PARENTING WORKSHOPS
SIDS and Kids WA are facilitating two free workshops focused on the early years:
* Safe Sleeping Education - 20 May, Scarborough & 3 June, Inglewood
* Basic Resuscitation - 27 May, Scarborough & 10 June, Inglewood
Participants have an option of two dates and two locations for each of the workshop topics.

REBUILDING NEPAL
All the community organisations have joined hands together to help the families and survivors in
Nepal. There will be a series of events and we will keep you posted following meetings. At the
moment we are collecting donations till 15th May. The urgent requirements are blankets,
sleeping bags, bedsheets, towels and tents if you can help. There are three collection points that
you can drop them off.
