1. What does the story's title mean?
The meaning of the title of the story is a heart that feels and needs to express what
happened and makes it through the heartbeat betraying the murderer.

2. The narrator visits the old man's bedroom every night for seven nights before killing him
on the eighth night. What finally causes him to commit the act?
On the eighth night he visited the old man's room which leads him to commit murder is a
noise. A noise that sounded louder in the ears of the murderer turned out to be the heartbeat of
old caused by fear I felt old because I knew there was someone in the room but could not see or
hear him. That beating became increasingly stronger caused the narrator put anxious thinking
that sound could be heard by a neighbor, then finally decided to commit murder to turn that noise
caused by heart palpitations old man

3. Why does the narrator kill the old man?


The man killed the old because the old man had an eye he compared it to that of a
vulture. Each time the old man looked at him with that eye man felt fear and anger leading him
to kill him to get rid of that look forever.

4. Summarize the steps in his plan.


Every night until noon the murderer turned the doorknob and opened it gently until all
have an opening large enough for it to fit the head and then enter a flashlight. The flashlight
was completely closed so that no light beam is not leaking; then put her head. In this process
it was like an hour for the head for the opening to be viewed lying on his bed. This routine

undertake.
5. Why do the police arrive?
The police arrive at the house where the murder was committed because a neighbor heard

7. Do you think the narrator feels guilty for his crime? Why or Why not?
I believe the narrator did not feel guilty for committing the act, on the contrary he shows
satisfaction at having done so. At different times the narrator says that he was glad the agony
that crossed the old man to know that someone was in his room but the old man could not see
it. Also, the narrator mentions that he was proud and pleased to see how easy it was made to
kill the old man. Prayers as are found in the text shows that at any time the murderer felt
guilty for the crime he committed.
8. At the end, do you think anyone but the narrator hears the beating of the old man's heart?
I think it really sounds that the narrator hears turns out to be the heartbeat only hears the
narrator either because really their senses of hearing are very acute and is able to hear the

sound or actually these sound are products of the mind the narrator because he's crazy.
9. Do the narrator's cleverness and carefulness prove he isn't mad?
Intelligence and the precautions that had to make the killing does not rule out the
possibility that the narrator this crazy. A person with mental problems can be smart and be
careful to make their acts. In addition, the obsessive-compulsive be traveling with the eye as
with the heartbeat person shows signs of mental problems that are diagnosed with the disease
of obsession and compulsion.
10. Give examples of how Poe creates suspense in the story?
Is suspended when the narrator enters the room the old man every night to watch

because it may be that at any moment the old man up and discover the narrator

Suspense is also shown when the police are in the house and the narrator begins to
hear the heartbeat of the old and start to feel nervous and begins to lose
