Now that you already learned many
things about Korea, its time to get to (Answers may vary)

already experienced talking to or
meeting a Korean? I assume you
usually see them in the television or
in the internet. Do you watch their
Koreanovelas? Well, I am one with
you when it comes to fangirling these
Korean stars. So based from these
Korean stories which you have seen,
especially the love stories, what can
you say about the Koreans when they
are into love?
Alright. We will understand better
what Koreans do when it comes to
love with this story that you are
going to read. But before that, let me
give you first this individual activity
which is a crossword puzzle. You
will do this in 3 minutes only.

e. Why is being faithful important?

Can you share an experience when
someone has been faithful or has
shown faithfulness to you? So what
makes it an essential element in
human
relationships
such
as
friendship and in the family? What
are its manifestations?

2. Reflection
Write a short pledge of faithfulness or
a promise to someone or something:
your family, friend, studies, God, or
even to your lifes dream and
ambition. Just choose one. Be truthful
and honest in what you will write. Do
this for 2 minutes. Afterwards, fold
your papers and put them inside this
bottle.

3. Writing Skill: Using Cohesive

Devices
Kindly read the two paragraphs on
the board.
Which one is better? How can you
say so? What are its differences?

That is right. So I think almost all

agree that Paragraph B is better. This
is because of these words that were
used to connect one idea to the next.
There is a clear flow of ideas. We call
these words that were used as
COHESIVE DEVICES.
So what are cohesive devices?
-They are like cues that help readers
progress from one idea to another;
-They show logical relationships
among parts of a piece of writing as
well as between sentences and
paragraphs;
-These include transition words and

more understandable than Paragraph

between sentences that make them
flow clearly from one idea to the
next.

paragraph hooks;
-They link sentences and paragraphs
together smoothly so that there are
no abrupt jumps or breaks between
ideas.
Because as we know there are many
types of cohesive devices, I want you
to identify under what type are the
transition words which I gave each of
you.
Types:
-Adding Information
and
also
moreover
furthermore
in addition
-Giving Examples
for example
for instance

in particular
-Showing a Contrast

on the other hand
otherwise instead in contrast
- Showing a Similarity

- Showing a Result

Using Transition Words and Phrases:
-Put a comma after these if they are
at the beginning of a sentence.
example: I like to travel. Specifically,
I enjoy places with old cathedrals.
-Use a semicolon to connect the two
sentences.
example: I like to travel; specifically, I
enjoy places with old cathedrals.
-Use a comma before and after the
transitional
word/phrase
in
the
middle of a clause.
example: I like to travel, and,
specifically, I enjoy places with old
cathedrals.

What to Avoid in Using Cohesive

Devices
1. Dont use transition words at
the
end
of
a
sentence/paragraph.
2. Dont overuse transitions.

IV. EVALUATION
Go back to the Tale of Chunhyang and list down 5-10 cohesive devices
used in the story. Also, be able to identify what type of transition words are
they. You can make a chart so that it will be easier for you. Choose 5 words
and use them appropriately in your own sentences. Do this in a 1/2 sheet of
paper for 10 minutes
V. ASSIGNMENT
Interview couples (or your parents) about their views on how
commitment and faithfulness help build a lasting relationship. Make sure that
these people have been together for quite a long time already (5 years
onwards). You can have your documentation of the interview such as
pictures, audio recordings or video. Write a short reflection in a short bond
paper about your interview experience and learning.
