Overview
This document describes how to install Optitex on your computer. The installation process is the same
for all versions of Optitex; therefore no extra steps are required.
A user friendly wizard is used when installing, allowing you to easily install and go back to previous
screens if needed.
Before You Begin
Before you can install Optitex, you must first make sure your computer has the minimum requirements
needed in order to run and operate Optitex properly. For more information, see Optitex System
Requirements.

Installing Optitex
Once you have verified your computer is compatible with the Optitex software, you can now install the
program on your computer. All you have to do is download the zipped package, extract it and then run.
1. Run the extracted full installation package.
The Optitex Installshield Wizard opens:

If you are missing any requirements necessary for installation, a message appears specifying the
missing prerequisites, click Install to proceed:

Once you have all requirements, the Optitex installation automatically begins and the Welcome
Screen appears:

2. Click Next.
The License Agreement dialog appears:

3. Read the license agreement, then select the I accept the terms in the license agreement radio
button.
4. Click Next.

The Customer Information dialog appears:

5. Enter your personal information including your name, organization and email.
6. In the Install this application for area, select whether to install the application for anyone who uses
this computer, or for the current user only.
7. Click Next.

The SDM Connection Configuration dialog appears:

Note: SDM is usually used with Modulate. If you want to configure an SDM connection, see
SDM Configuration Options.
Or
Click Next to skip this step.
The Destination Folder dialog appears:

8. To set the installation folder to another location, click Change.


Or
Click Next to accept the default folder location.
The Setup Type dialog appears:

9. Select the type of setup you require:

Complete: Installs all components. For more information, see the Implementation Guide.
Custom: (advanced) Allows you to exclude some of the components.

To remove a component, click the small arrow next to the component.

An X appears showing you the component has been removed:

10. Click Next.


The Ready to Install the Program dialog appears:

11. Click Install.


The installation process starts:

Once the installation is complete, the InstallShield Wizard Completed message appears:

12. Click Finish.


You can now activate your license for the new version (if needed). For more information, see the Optitex
Licensing Guide.

Appendix
SDM Configuration Options
This section describes how to configure SDM (Smart Data Management) options.
Note: SDM is mostly used with Modulate.
1. To configure SDM, select the Configure SDM Connection checkbox.
The SDM database selection options appear.

2. Select one of the available options.

Use SQL Server database with the specified connection information: Allows you to use the SQL
server as your database platform.
Once you select this option, the SQL specification fields appear:

Specify the SQL server details including: IP Address, database name, username and password.

Use new MSaccess database: Creates a new database or connects to an existing database,
which was created in Optitex version 10 or later
Use a copy of the existing Optitex9 MSAccess database: Select this option if you want to import
an Optitex version 9 MSAccess database.

3. Click Next.
The Destination Folder dialog appears.
4. You can now continue from step 9 in the installation process.
