Cargo equipment

3.1

General

The ship is designed to carry iron ore on deck, between vertical steel coamings (heigh
t abt. 4.8 m).
Dimension of cargo area: abt. 77.5 x 14 m.
The deck will be stiffened in order to allow ore transportation.

3.2

Coamings

The coamings surrounding the cargo area will be provided with openings in thei
r lower part, in
order to allow proper drainage of cargo hold, however the number and size of
those openings
should be kept to a minimum as allowed by rules.
The main deck should be provided on sides with scuppers enabling to collect the rain
/ ore mixture
coming through the above drain openings in coamings. It will be possible to dir
ect this mixture

towards a collecting tank (this tank can be emptied by the ballast pumps), or directly
to sea via bypass valves.

3.3

Rain covers

Weathertight covers will be fitted on top of coamings in order to protect the cargo fro
m rain.
Material:

Aluminium

Type:

Sliding, telescopic

Operation:

Electrical

The hatches will be stored above the forecastle deck, in order to allow to leave fully o
pen the entire
cargo area.
The hatches will slide along rails fitted on the outer side of the cargo coamings, slightl
y lower than
the top of the coamings, in order to avoid any damage of the rails by grabs.

The propellers will be mounted in a well and it will be possible to remove them when t
he ship is
afloat.
The fore propellers will be surrounded by a cage enabling to divert obstacles like flo
ating trees
that could damage the propellers.
For the same purpose, a diverting skeg will be provided a few meters fore of the aft p
ropellers.

The 4 thrusters will be controlled by a joystick. This system will be linked to a tracking
