Outsourced Maintenance Manager – November 2002 to December 2008

I was responsible for:-


• the management of all Virgin Atlantic’s (B747 & A340) outsourced airframe maintenance activities.
• the monitoring of 3rd party maintenance organisation performance.
• the local management of the liaison team, ensuring manpower is fully utilised.
• the negotiation of routine and non routine man hour charges with contracted 3rd party maintenance
organisation.
• the control of inspection and maintenance standards with the use of a quality control programme.
• monitoring check planning schedules, spares delivery and check progress to ensure that targets are met.
• promoting and maintaining a close, efficient working relationship with all customers, both internal and
external.
• the compilation of airframe maintenance reserve claims.
• The compilation and management of the outsourced maintenance budget, approx £20 million per annum.

Achievements
• Responsible for the A340 maintenance contract switch from SR Technics (Ireland) to Lufthansa Technik
Philippines, following extensive bench marking, selection process and contract negotiations
• Part of the engineering team involved with the ongoing timely delivery of the ‘Upper Class Suite’ product
on the Virgin fleet.
• For the period of 1st January 2005 to 31st December 2005, a reduction in the B747-400 outsourced
maintenance costs of 25% (3 Million Euros). This was achieved though benchmarking selected third party
maintenance repair organisations and re-negotiating existing contracts.

Senior Planning Engineer Boeing Fleet Team – April 2000 to November 2002
Responsible for ensuring the effective planning of maintenance on the Virgin Atlantic Boeing Fleet in close liaison
with production, materials, commercial and 3rd party maintenance organisations, thus having a significant result on
the 3rd Party maintenance budget expenditure. Providing a leadership role amongst the planning engineers,
assisting with problem solving, communication, balancing and planning workloads as well as addressing inter-
departmental issues. Promoting and maintaining a close, efficient working relationship with all customers, both
internal and external.

Achievements
• Introduction of heavy maintenance visit works programmes with man-hours 12 months in advance of
inputs, to aid in accurate downtime allocation and 3rd party maintenance organisation sourcing.
• Transition to fleet streaming and taking responsibility for the maintenance programmes and modifications
areas, whilst still maintaining pre-determined service level agreements.

B747-100 / -200 / -400 Fleets.

maintenance organisations.
• Raising of Ad-Hoc workpacks for out-of-phase AMS tasks and scheduled engine / APU changes.
• Implementation of major modification programmes, ensuring aircraft downtime requirements are co-
ordinated effectively with the airlines operational requirements.
Achievements
• Generation of AD268 statements for the B747-100 / -200 / -400 & A340 fleets.
• Implementation and control of the airline’s B747-100 / -200 corrosion prevention and control programme.

B737-300 / -400 Fleet Planning Engineer (Airlines of Europe) – October 1990 to March 1991
Responsible for the compilation of maintenance visit work summaries, man-hour requirements and workpacks for
the 25 aircraft of Air Europe (UK), Air Europa (Spain) and Air Europe Scandinavia (Norway). Raising of ad-hoc
workpacks for out-of-phase AMS tasks and scheduled engine / APU changes. Providing maintenance planning
support to 3rd party contractors.
