2, Saya ingin memaklumkan bahawa pihak kami telah menerima surat daripada Prof. Dr. Pratap
Singhasivanon, Secretary General/Coordinator SEAMEO-TROPMED Network, Bangkok bahawa
satu biasiswa akan ditawarkan kepada pesefta Malaysia untuk mengikuti kursus DAP&E 20t4.
Kursus ini akan bermula pada 14 Julai sehingga L2 Disember 20L4 dan berlangsung selama 5
bulan. Salinan surat berkenaan diseftakan bersama.

makluman ini kepada Jabatan yang berkaitan. Bersama ini saya lampirkan risalah kursus DAP&E

Institute for Medical Research (IMR)
The Institute for Medical Research (IMR) established in 1900, is the research arm of
the Ministry of Health, Malaysia. Research programmes of the Institute are aligned
with the health research priority areas and health needs of the country. The IMR
undertakes research to advance scientific knowledge and understanding as well as to
provide evidences for informed decision making and formulation of effective
preventive and control programs and activities. Research is also carried out with the
purpose of developing enabling technologies or products and identifying new
biomarkers for use in the early detection and diagnosis of disease, monitoring of
disease progression and targeted therapy. IMR also provides specialised diagnostic
services, training in specialised field and consultative and advisory services.

SEAMEO-TROPMED Regional Centre for


Microbiology, Parasitology & Entomology
In line with the overall mission of SEAMEO, the role of SEAMEO-TROPMED is
to promote health and to prevent or control diseases, thus improving the living
conditions of people in South and Southeast Asia through relevant programmes and
services. Together with two other Regional Centers in the NETWORK hosted by
established academic and/or research institutions in the Philippines and Thailand,
SEAMEO-TROPMED serves to facilitate the strengthening of national and
institutional capabilities in research and human resource development through
various training and postgraduate degree programmes, linkages, personnel
exchanges, scientific forums, technical consultant services, publication and
information dissemination. SEAMEO-TROPMED Network beliefs that, healthy
and enlightened citizen is the basis of stable nationhood.

The Course is designed to train doctors, scientists and other health personnel for
research, diagnostic services, control programmes and teaching institutions in
Applied Parasitology and Entomology.
Entrance Requirement
Applicant must have:

A sufficiently good command of English


Basic degree in medical, biological or health sciences
Working in the field of parasitology and entomology or related areas
Should be between 26 to 46 years old at the closing date of the application
Should be certified medically and physically fit to participate in this programme

Microbiology, Parasitology & Entomology, Institute for Medical Research (IMR),
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Assessment of candidate

There will be continuous assessment of the candidate through the Course. At the end
of groups of related modules, the candidates will be assessed. This contributes to
10% of the total marks. Each candidates will be required to do a literature review
assignment on recent advances in a particular topic, and present this to the class and
faculty members. This contributes to 5% of the total marks. A mid-term
examination consisting of practical assessment contributes to 10% marks. All
candidates are required to conduct a small original research project which will
contribute to 25% of the total marks. The final examination consisting of both
theory and practical assessments of the candidates will contribute to 50% of the total
marks. A successful candidate will be awarwded the Diploma in Applied
Parasitology and Entomology (DAP&E) of the SEAMEO-TROPMED Regional
Centre for Microbiology, Parasitology & Entomology, Institute for Medical
Research, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A candidate who fails to obtain the pass mark
but has satisfactorily completed the courses will be awarded a Certificate of
Attendance.

(DAP&E). Number of candidates accepted is subject to the availability of seats.

Dress Code of the Course


The dress code for attending lectures is smart casual. For formal occasions (visit to
MTCP, presentations and convocation), suit jacket and tie or national costume is
required. Candidate must bring own lab coat for the use in practical class.
Modular Courses
Participants may also apply to attend a particular module offered by the course. The
participant will join the rest of the diploma course regular candidates, including
practical sessions and field visits. The module offered and the chargeable fees are as
listed in schedules. Upon satisfactory completion of the module, participants will be
awarded a Certificates of Attendance. However, acceptance is subject to availability
of seats.

DAP&E Full Course

Every participant is required to pay a course fee of RM 18,500.00 per person that
should be paid in advance. Course fee should be paid directly to the Director
Institute for Medical Research. However participant may join individual module
and the fees are listed follows (exclusive of food and accommodation).

The Institute does provide a limited number of hostel rooms (with basic facility and
shared bathroom) on a twin-sharing basis. The male and the female rooms are
located on a different wing of the Hostel. The cost of the hostel room is RM 100.00
per person, per month. However candidates can look for their own accommodation
if they wish to. The room rate around Kuala Lumpur is about RM 200.00 RM
300.00 per month. Apartment rental is about RM 450.00 RM 800.00 per month
depending on the location and facilities available. Food is not provided at the hostel.

SEAMEO -TROPMED

Applications must be made using SEAMEO-TROPMED fellowship forms


obtainable from SEAMEO-TROPMED Network, 420/6 Ratchawithi Road, Bangkok
10400, Thailand. Applications must be made through the applicants government to
the SEAMEO-TROPMED Secretariat in Bangkok. Applications are open to
applicants from ASEAN member countries only.
b)

Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP)

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia will provide the Course Brochure and
Application Forms to various National Focal Agency in Charge Overall Technical
Assistance in a country. The National Focal Agency will then distribute to the
related Agencies and Ministries. Candidates who are interested should follow the
application procedure (Refer to http://mtcp.kln.gov.my/application/applicationprocedures). Application must be made in the standard application form (obtainable
from MTCP website) in 3 copies. All application must be submitted through the
applicant's government to the official representatives of the Malaysian Government.

Candidates who received sponsor from other agencies are required to fill application
