Teachers should be attempting to direct the interest
and enthusiasm for student to learn, injects selfconfidence to shy and sensitive pupils and also help
pupils resolve problem.
Teachers need to have the ability and opportunity to
understand pupils as an individual and as an group.

to gather information
1.

In the activities of the formal classroom .

2. In the cocuricular activites which is being the focus now.


3. In other activities in the school.
4. During interview with the pupils.

THE ROLE ORDINARY TEACHERS AS LEADERS

While in the classroom, teachers can add efficiency to the


school guidance activities if they practice and observe on the
things that are stated below.
1.

Just try to understand and keep an eye on each of the pupils.

2.

Empathize with the pupils.

3.

Be friendly with each pupils.

4.

To interact with every pupils without any conditions

5.

Try making the classroom friendly and conducive

6.

Give an opportunity for the pupils to be themselves.

7.

Develop the positive attitude among the pupils.

8.

Help improve every pupils learning skills

CollectingStudents Information
Skillful guidance teachers is the always trying to gain a
clear picture about their client. The things that need to be
given attention is
General client information,
Health,
Achievement,
Talent,
Personality adjustment,
Interest,
Plan for the future and
Family background.
The aspects that need to be noted is the atmosphere in
the home, physical conditions, social relationships, the
intellectual and emotional growth (Aquino and Alviar,
1980).

How information are collected

or by questionare

1. Making Observation
Observation is a technique to observe what is happening directly or
indirectly.
Teachers can have a better understanding of the pupils through
observations
So that the observation is useful, teachers or guidance teacher are
require to learn what and how to observe (Aquino and Alviar, 1980).
He will also need to prevent himself from give more attention to one
type of behavior. According to Abu Ahmad (1975), there are three types
of observation which is:
A The participating observation.
B. The non participation observation .
C. The Quasi Participation the observer seems to involve themselves
in the activities , but he is only pretending to take active part.

2. Reference Check
Through the records
Record Cards of 001 (M) 77 contains much information that is useful if this card is
filled with correct info and updated.
This card contains some of the things about the pupils.
Item 1 - Contains the details on the pupils such as your name, dates of birth, place of
birth, religion, Social Security number, home address and the distance of
the home from school.
Item 2 - The details on family such as the name, ID cards and the parents or
guardian employment, the number of children and position of the pupils in
the family .
Item 3 -Records the attendance to school and the cocuriculm activities . Other
information that can be found is the registering date in the school, the
name of former school earlier, position in the school, the interest and the
ambition.
Item 4 Result of test or school exam.
Item 5 - Result public exams such as the name exams, date taken and the score.
Item 6 - Scholarships, financial gifts and academic and cocuricular acheivement and
other.

Through questionare

Questionare is a form that contains question that needs to be


answered by respondents.
Types of questions depends on the purpose of that questionare
being use.
This questionare of may contain questions that are closed, open
questions or a mix of both.
In the closed question, the respondents choose the answer that has
been provided.
In an Open Question , respondents are given liberty to answer it.

5. Report from the teachers


Teachers can give a non official report about the pupils based on
observation of the pupils by them.
They can monitor the behavior of the students in and outside of
the classroom.
This report can be discussed by the school guidance committee.
A form that can report pupils critical incidents should be circulated
among the teachers. This is aimed to make it easy for them to make a
report.

6. Interviews with the students and parents or Guardian


This is a technique that can collectidata straight from the data
source.
This communication is done through oral dialog.
Interviews can be done insedental ly when it is required or plan
to be done at the time which has been agreed (Djumhur and Surya,
1975).
This interviews aimed to get information which is the first stage in
counseling interviews.
At this stage, the guidance teachers might want to get information
related to clients past, what he likes and dislikes, his attitude or
ambition.

Identifying Pupils
PROBLEMS

GuidanceTeacher, guidance teachers assitance and school


staff should be able to identify, those who need counseling .
Generally, the pupils who have the following attributes can be
referred for guidance and counselling from the unit.
a)

Students who always have the lowest achievement.

b)

Students who face financial problems.

c)

Students who are always late to school or always didnt


attend.

d)

Student who has difficulty taking parts in the classroom

e)

Students that all of a sudden wants to stop schooling.

f.

Students that finds difficulty adjusting themselves in the


school.

g.

Students who had talents or extraordinary capabllty


whether in terms of intellect, art and so on.

h.

The students are too shy, withdrawn and afraid.

i.

Students who always miss completing school works or


stunted to finish school work

j.

Students who always find a way to go home earlier than it


should be.

k.

Students whom are too active in cocuricular activities and


so on.

l.

Students who have behavior problems such as hostility,


aggressive, stealing, lying and others.
